Overview
We are currently working in partnership with a Local Authority in the South West to recruit an experienced Private Sector Housing Officer on an initial 6-month contract. This role sits within a busy enforcement team, with a strong focus on identifying and tackling unauthorised HMOs across the borough.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading on investigations into suspected unlicensed and unauthorised HMOs
- Conducting inspections of HMO properties to assess compliance with current legislation
- Gathering evidence and building robust cases to support enforcement action
- Serving statutory notices and progressing enforcement action where required
- Responding to complaints relating to housing conditions within the private rented sector
- Liaising with landlords, tenants, and other stakeholders to achieve compliance
- Managing a caseload of complex investigations and maintaining accurate records
Requirements
- Proven experience working within Private Sector Housing, with a strong focus on HMO enforcement
- In-depth knowledge of HMO licensing, housing legislation, and enforcement processes
- Experience investigating unauthorised or non-compliant HMOs
- Ability to work independently, managing complex cases from start to finish
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Purpose of the Role
As a Private Sector Housing Officer, you will play a key role in identifying and addressing unlicensed and substandard HMOs, ensuring landlords meet their legal responsibilities. Your work will directly contribute to improving housing conditions, protecting tenants, and supporting the council’s wider regulatory objectives within the private rented sector.
