This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with data, has strong Excel skills, and wants to be part of a head office team where accuracy, organisation, and commercial awareness really matter.
You'll be supporting the wider buying function with supplier information, reporting, product set up, tenders, and day-to-day purchasing activity, so this would suit someone who likes variety and takes pride in getting the detail right.
Due to an internal promotion, this is a new role with genuine scope to develop further within buying. The business is looking for someone who is proactive, confident working with numbers, and happy to liaise with internal teams and suppliers to keep things moving properly.
Key Responsibilities for the Purchasing Assistant are:
- Liaising with the internal sales team on customer enquiries, including sourcing products, negotiating with suppliers, and providing accurate costs
- Compiling weekly and periodic reports using Excel
- Maintaining and updating purchasing data, including supplier terms, conditions, pricing information, and product details
- Supporting product set up, making sure new lines are entered correctly and all required information is captured from the start
- Assisting with tender creation and analysis, pulling together information and comparing supplier options to support commercial decisions
- Supporting new supplier onboarding, including gathering relevant information, completing checks, and keeping internal records up to date
- Working closely with Sales and Supply Chain to support key measures around product availability, aged stock, and working capital targets
Skills and Experience Required from the Purchasing Assistant include:
- A self-starter with an enquiring mind, who is comfortable asking questions and finding the information needed to move tasks forward
- Commercially astute and highly analytical, with the ability to spot patterns, check detail, and understand the impact of pricing, supplier terms, and stock decisions
- Strong Excel skills, including confidence working with reports, formulas, data checks, and spreadsheets with a good level of accuracy
