Quantity Surveyor – The Company

Our client is an established and successful main contractor with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality construction projects across Bristol and the wider South West.

The business delivers an interesting mix of substantial refurbishment and new build projects across the commercial, education and wider construction sectors. Refurbishment schemes typically range from £3m to £10m in value, alongside a varied portfolio of new build projects.

With a strong pipeline of secured work, experienced management team and a good reputation within the regional construction market, they can offer genuine long-term stability and the opportunity to work on quality projects without the need for extensive travel.

Quantity Surveyor – The Role

An excellent opportunity for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join the commercial team and take responsibility for the commercial management of refurbishment and new build projects.

This role would particularly suit an intermediate-level QS who has gained solid main contractor experience and is now looking to take greater ownership of their own projects and continue developing their commercial career.

Depending on project size and experience, you will either commercially manage your own schemes or work alongside a Senior Quantity Surveyor on larger projects.

Typical responsibilities will include:

  • Commercial management of projects from pre-construction through to final account
  • Procurement and management of subcontract packages
  • Preparation of tender enquiries and subcontract documentation
  • Subcontractor valuations and payments
  • Cost reporting, forecasting and CVRs
  • Management of variations and change
  • Working closely with site and project management teams
  • Client liaison and commercial meetings
  • Monitoring project costs against budget and programme
  • Agreement of final accounts
  • Ensuring projects achieve their commercial and contractual objectives

Quantity Surveyor – The Person

You will have previous Quantity Surveying experience working for a main contractor and a good understanding of the commercial management of building projects.

You will ideally have:

  • Experience working on refurbishment and/or new build construction projects
  • Main contractor Quantity Surveying experience
  • Good subcontract procurement and management skills
  • Experience with valuations, variations, cost reporting and final accounts
  • A construction-related HNC, HND or degree would be advantageous
  • Strong commercial awareness and communication skills
  • The ability to work independently while being part of a wider project and commercial team
  • A desire to develop your career with a stable regional contractor

Quantity Surveyor – The Package

  • Salary of £50,000 - £55,000, with flexibility towards £60,000 for the right candidate
