The Opportunity

An established and highly regarded regional building contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team in Leeds.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially driven QS who enjoys having genuine ownership of their projects and wants to work closely with senior management within an established, privately owned contractor.

The role offers considerable autonomy, with responsibility for managing approximately 5–6 live projects at any one time, ranging from smaller £100k schemes through to projects in excess of £3m, with larger schemes reaching approximately £5m.

You will work closely with the Managing Director, playing a key role in the commercial management of projects from initial appointment through to completion and final account.

The Role

As Quantity Surveyor, you will take responsibility for the full commercial lifecycle of your projects, including:

• Managing 5–6 live projects simultaneously across various sectors, including Commercial, Industrial, Retail, Education, Residential and Historical Buildings
• Projects ranging from approximately £100k to £3m, with larger projects reaching around £5m
• Taking projects from initial appointment through to completion and final account
• Preparing and managing valuations
• Attending site meetings, valuation meetings and progress meetings
• Managing subcontractor accounts and payments
• Preparing applications for payment and monitoring cash flow
• Managing variations, change control and commercial risk
• Reviewing costs against budgets and forecasts
• Producing accurate financial reporting and project forecasts
• Negotiating and agreeing final accounts
• Working closely with Site Managers, Project Managers, subcontractors and clients
• Providing commercial advice and support directly to the Managing Director

This is a hands-on role, so we're looking for someone who is comfortable getting involved at site level, attending meetings and taking ownership of their projects rather than simply managing figures from behind a desk.

The Candidate

The ideal candidate will be an experienced Quantity Surveyor with a background within commercial or industrial building.

You should be comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously and have the commercial understanding to take responsibility for projects from start to finish.

We're particularly interested in candidates who have experience with:

• Commercial or industrial construction
• Managing multiple live projects
• Subcontractor management and procurement
• Valuations and applications for payment
• Variations and change management
• Cost control and forecasting
• Final accounts
• Client and subcontractor meetings

You'll need to be confident dealing directly with clients, subcontractors and site teams, whilst also being comfortable working closely with the Managing Director on the commercial performance of the business.

Location & Travel

The role is office based in Leeds, with some travel required to project sites.

Projects are predominantly located throughout Yorkshire, although there will occasionally be projects extending into Manchester, Derbyshire and the North East.

A full UK driving licence is therefore essential.

• £55,000 - £60,000 basic salary
