Simon Acres Group
Job Title: Regional Sales Manager – South of England & Ireland
Base Salary: £90,000 – £100,000 per annum + Bonus
INTRODUCTION
Are you an experienced sales leader with a proven ability to manage, support, and develop high-performing sales teams? A leading business in the sector is seeking a Regional Head of Sales Manager to take full ownership of the South sales team, driving accountability, identifying opportunities, and delivering regional growth.
ABOUT THE COMPANY
Our client is a well-established and growing business committed to high standards of commercial excellence and customer satisfaction across the UK. By fostering a proactive, accountable culture, the company provides an excellent environment for experienced sales management professionals to lead teams, support key accounts, and drive regional performance.
THE ROLE
The Regional Head of Sales Manager is responsible for the performance, management, and development of the Regional sales team across the South. In this role, you will take ownership of the region, ensuring representatives are effectively managed, supported, and held accountable for their performance. You will maintain a clear understanding of representative and customer performance, identify opportunities and issues early, bring forward plans and solutions, and act as a vital communication link between field representatives and senior management.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Sales Team Management & Expectation Setting
-
Take full ownership of the performance and development of the South sales team.
-
Manage the day-to-day performance of representatives within the region and set clear expectations.
-
Regularly review individual sales performance against targets and previous performance, ensuring representatives have clear plans for developing their areas and customer bases.
-
Maintain high standards, accountability, and consistency across all representatives within the region, following up on agreed actions promptly.
-
Identify representatives who require additional support, training, or closer management, addressing poor performance or lack of activity at an early stage.
-
Recognise areas of strong performance and identify where successful approaches can be replicated across the wider team.
One-to-One Meetings & Performance Reviews
-
Carry out a monthly one-to-one meeting with each representative, either via Teams or in person.
-
Prepare for meetings by reviewing sales results against targets, previous performance, and agreed objectives—focusing first on what has been achieved and the reasons for any performance gaps.
-
Review key sales activity and future opportunities, including priority customers, new business, and significant potential deals.
-
Review progress against previously agreed actions, holding representatives accountable for commitments made.
-
Agree a small number of clear, measurable priorities and actions for the following month, maintaining appropriate records and escalating significant performance or conduct concerns to senior management.
Customer, Territory & Key Account Planning
-
Ensure each representative develops useful annual plans for key customers and territories, using them actively throughout the year rather than as a one-off exercise.
-
Support representatives in identifying realistic growth opportunities within existing accounts and developing plans to address underperforming accounts.
-
Support representatives with major customers and strategically important accounts, becoming involved where management support can assist with account development, resolving issues, or securing opportunities.
-
Help representatives prepare for and attend important customer meetings where appropriate.
-
Ensure significant customer issues and growth opportunities are effectively communicated to senior management.
Accompanied Visits, Training & Coaching
-
Regularly spend time in the field with individual representatives with clear objectives (customer development, training, or performance assessment).
-
Observe preparation, customer interaction, product knowledge, and selling approaches, providing clear and constructive feedback following visits.
-
Use accompanied visits to gain a direct understanding of customers, competitors, and market conditions across the region.
-
Identify individual and team training requirements, providing practical coaching to improve product knowledge, selling skills, and account management.
-
Work with senior management and other departments to arrange additional training, assist with new product training, and contribute to national sales meetings.
Regional Development, Communication & Recruitment
-
Maintain a clear view of overall regional performance, identifying areas, customers, and product categories with potential for further growth.
-
Bring forward practical proposals for regional sales development and monitor competitor activity, sharing market feedback with the business.
-
Keep senior management appropriately informed of performance, updates, significant opportunities, risks, and customer issues without requiring day-to-day prompting.
-
Communicate company priorities, decisions, and expectations clearly to representatives, ensuring agreed actions are implemented.
-
Support the recruitment, interview, onboarding, and induction of new representatives, ensuring clear initial objectives and ongoing support.
-
Support performance management, restructuring, or redundancy processes where necessary in conjunction with senior management and HR.
