Parity is delighted to partner with our client, a public sector organisation, who are looking to recruit a on a 23-month contract basis.
You will be based in their modern, central Edinburgh offices with potential to work remotely 2 days a week.

About the Role

We are looking for a Research Officer (Data Analyst) to join the Policy & Research Team. This role would suit an experienced data analyst who enjoys working with complex datasets and using data to support high-quality research and evidence-based reporting.

Working directly with the Senior Researcher and Data Analyst, you will support the day-to-day management of research databases, including data input, cleaning, querying, and analysis. You will use advanced Excel skills alongside tools such as Power BI to produce accurate and meaningful analytical reports.
Key Responsibilities
  • Support the day-to-day management of research databases and relationships between datasets.

  • Conduct data cleaning, querying, and manipulation.

  • Maintain and develop Excel workbooks used for research and analysis.

  • Use Excel and Power BI to manipulate data and produce analytical reports.

  • Analyse information gathered by wider Inquiry teams for research purposes.

  • Communicate findings clearly and appropriately to a range of stakeholders.

  • Take ownership of individual projects, objectives, and targets.

  • Support the copy-editing and proofreading of reports, ensuring accuracy and consistency.

  • Collaborate with colleagues across the multidisciplinary team.

  • Provide wider support to the Policy & Research Team where required.
About You
You will have strong practical data analysis experience and confident working with complex, sensitive datasets in a research environment.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills are essential, including experience with Power Query and Macros. You should also be comfortable using data analysis and manipulation tools and technologies such as Power BI, Access, SQL, R and/or Python.

You will also have:
  • Experience gathering, managing, manipulating, and analysing complex and sensitive data.

  • Experience working with large-scale research projects and datasets.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to data quality and accuracy.

  • Experience working to tight deadlines and managing competing priorities.

  • The ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.

  • Effective communication and presentation skills, with a good command of English.

  • Resilience and the ability to work appropriately with sensitive and potentially distressing subject matter.
