Sales Engineer (Mechanical) in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire

Location: Peterborough
Hours: 39 hours per week, Monday to Thursday 8:30am - 5:00pm, Friday 8:30am - 4:00pm
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

Reporting to the Sales Office Manager, the Sales Engineer will provide technical & product support & training to the sales team and customers

We are seeking a Sales Engineer to join a successful engineering business, providing technical expertise and product support to both customers and internal teams. This is a varied role that combines engineering knowledge, customer interaction and commercial awareness.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring customer requirements are accurately interpreted, solutions are technically compliant, and proposals are delivered to the highest standard.

To be considered for this position, candidates must hold a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a similar engineering discipline relevant to the industry and associated experience.

• Produce technical specifications, drawings and calculations to support customer requirements.
• Ensure proposed solutions meet manufacturer guidelines and engineering standards.
• Provide technical support and guidance to the sales team and customers.
• Prepare and review technical content for quotations, tenders and proposals.
• Work closely with manufacturers, suppliers and external partners regarding product specifications and installation requirements.
• Identify suitable products and solutions based on customer needs.
• Manage all technical and specification-related aspects of customer projects and orders.
• Act as the technical link between commercial and operational departments.
• Research market trends, industry developments and competitor activity.
• Attend customer meetings, exhibitions and industry events.
• Build strong relationships with customers, suppliers and key stakeholders.
• Deliver product and technical training to internal teams.

• Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Strong technical aptitude and ability to understand engineering drawings and specifications.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical information clearly.
• Strong organisational and administrative abilities.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and general IT systems.
• Ability to prioritise workload and manage multiple tasks effectively.
• Professional and customer-focused approach.

• Experience within engineering, manufacturing, automotive, commercial vehicle, agricultural machinery, heavy equipment or a related technical sector.
• Previous experience in a Sales Engineer, Applications Engineer, Technical Support Engineer or similar role.
• Knowledge of high-value engineered products or capital equipment.
