Are you an experienced and qualified School Business Manager looking for your next rewarding opportunity within a supportive and welcoming primary school?

We are currently recruiting on behalf of a Good-rated Primary School in Birmingham (B12) seeking an experienced School Business Manager (SBM) to join their leadership team on a full-time basis from the start of the 2026 academic year.

This position has arisen to provide cover for the current SBM, who is currently absent due to sickness. As there is no confirmed return date at present, this role offers an excellent opportunity for a School Business Manager seeking a long-term assignment, with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.

The school is looking for a confident and capable professional who can quickly integrate into the school environment and provide effective leadership across all aspects of school business management.

The Role

As School Business Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the strategic and operational management of the school, ensuring that financial, administrative, HR, premises and compliance functions run efficiently and effectively.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and managing the school's financial operations and budget management
  • Overseeing procurement, contracts and purchasing processes
  • Managing HR administration and supporting recruitment processes
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and school policies
  • Supporting the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team with strategic planning
  • Managing administrative support functions and office operations
  • Overseeing health and safety, premises and facilities management
  • Producing financial reports and monitoring expenditure
  • Managing external service providers and supplier relationships
  • Supporting the effective use of resources to maximise pupil outcomes

The Ideal Candidate

The successful applicant will have:

  • A recognised School Business Management qualification or relevant equivalent
  • Previous experience working as a School Business Manager within a UK school setting
  • Strong financial management and budgeting experience
  • Excellent organisational and leadership skills
  • Knowledge of school finance systems and statutory compliance requirements
  • Experience managing school administration, HR and operational functions
  • The ability to work effectively with senior leaders, governors and external stakeholders
  • A proactive, professional and solution-focused approach
