About the School
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated School Business Manager to join our school and become an integral member of the Senior Leadership Team.
Our school is committed to providing a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment in which every young person has the opportunity to achieve their potential. We work with pupils with a range of additional needs, including autism, social communication needs, emotional regulation difficulties and sensory processing needs.
The School Business Manager will play a key role in ensuring the school operates efficiently, effectively and within budget, while maintaining the highest standards of safeguarding, compliance and operational management.
The Role
The School Business Manager will have responsibility for the effective management of the school's support functions, which may include:
- Finance, budgeting and financial reporting
- Administration and school systems
- Human Resources and employee relations
- Facilities, premises and site maintenance
- Health and safety and compliance
- Catering and housekeeping
- Procurement and contract management
- Risk management and business continuity
The post holder will work with a high degree of autonomy, taking responsibility for delegated budgets, resources and operational decision-making.
You will be expected to develop, implement and monitor improvement plans across the areas within your remit, ensuring that services remain efficient, compliant and focused on supporting positive outcomes for pupils.
As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will contribute to the strategic development of the school and work collaboratively with colleagues, pupils, parents, external agencies and other stakeholders.
The role will be varied, and you will be expected to contribute to the wider aims and objectives of the school when required.
Skills and Experience
The successful candidate is likely to demonstrate:
- Knowledge and understanding of relevant regulations, legislation and standards relating to education.
- Understanding of current inspection and regulatory frameworks.
- Knowledge of safeguarding requirements and legislation relating to children and young people.
- Strong financial management skills, including budget preparation, monitoring, financial systems and processes.
- Experience of managing budgets and resources effectively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge and experience of recruitment, HR and employee relations.
- Strong organisational, planning and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to build positive relationships with staff, pupils, parents, external agencies and other stakeholders.
- The ability to set and achieve high, appropriate and realistic standards.
- Effective leadership and people-management skills.
- The ability to assess situations accurately, resolve problems effectively and make sound decisions.
- A flexible, supportive and solution-focused approach.
- Previous experience as a School Business Manager or in a similar senior operational role is desirable.
- Experience of working within a specialist education or SEND setting would be advantageous, although it is not essential.
