Job Introduction
We are looking for a SCL Shift Manager or experienced SCL Shift Engineer looking to take the next step with demonstrable experience in shaft and tunnelling works using SCL Methods. The role is for the High Speed Two project. High Speed Two is the UK's new high-speed rail network. You will be required to manage the Shift Engineers delivering SCL in line with RESS (Required Excavation Support Sheet) in accordance with the project requirements including health and safety.
Please note the role will be based in Primrose Hill, London and will involve shift works Monday to Friday.
- Shift Manager will report into the Sub Agent.
Role Responsibility
- Responsible for the shift in conjunction with the pit boss and managing the shift engineer/s to ensure all setting-out, as built and quality control procedures are performed in a timely and efficient manner, so as not to impede the construction programme.
- The Shift Manager will liaise between different site/support disciplines to ensure effective planning and use of project resources and manage and drive the works, training and development of the Site Engineering team.
- Develop 6-weekly programmes with shift engineer and simple benchmark productivity measures for the workforce and assess actual programme and productivity achieved for review at weekly progress meetings to include resource requirements.
- Complete inspection and test plans, risk assessments and method statements for the control of the works ensuring that all necessary documentation, as required by these statements and plans, is produced in a timely manner.
- Oversee Shift engineer complete timely and accurate as-built records, fill in ITP check sheets and ensuring hold points are maintained.
- Communicate with Sub Agent, works managers, Pit boss, gangers, workforce, and sub-contractors to ensure all parties understand works and resolve issues promptly.
- Communicate to the QA and QS teams' non-conformances, and any instructions received from the client / designer / RE's staff. Ensure that comprehensive records of resources employed on additional works are maintained.
- Procurement of Plant, Materials and Equipment to meeting programme requirements.
- Keep a full and accurate daily site diary, including any changes / variations, subcontractors' attendance, and records of work-related discussions with client / designer / RE / project team.
- Adherence to project policies and procedures.
- Provide delivery team update to Shift Review Group on progress to date and plan for coming 24hrs.
- Manage works in line with the RESS (Required Excavation Support Sheet).
The Ideal Candidate
- Degree level qualification in a Civil Engineering allied subject or HND/HNC in Civil Engineering and vocational training in Engineering
- Understanding of Engineering Principles
- Technical knowledge of construction/tunnelling techniques and best practices.
- Computer competence (MS Word, Excel, Document control system).
- Relevant CSCS Card
- Training in Health & Safety and Environmental management
- Presentation Skills Training (inductions / briefings etc).
Desirable
- Used Amberg tunnel software or similar to produce as-built records, control excavation stages, and generate accurate tunnel profiles in line with design requirements.
- The Tunnelling Safety Training Scheme (TSTS) desirable.
- Proficient in AutoCAD.
