Cover People are looking for a passionate Secondary SEND Teacher to support pupils with Autism!

Cover People are currently recruiting on behalf of a specialist secondary school in Oldham seeking a committed and adaptable SEND Teacher with experience, or a strong interest, in working with pupils with Autism and additional needs. The role is due to commence in September 2026 and offers a full-time, long-term opportunity, with the potential to become permanent.

The Basics:

Role: Secondary SEND Teacher – Autism
Location: Oldham
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full-time, long-term, with potential for a permanent position
Hours: Monday to Friday, full time
Pay: £160–£230 per day DOE – paid through PAYE or an Umbrella company.
Please note: Qualified mainstream Secondary Teachers who have experience supporting pupils with Autism, SEMH, complex needs or within specialist settings are also encouraged to apply.

The Role:

• Deliver well-structured and engaging lessons adapted to the individual needs and abilities of pupils with Autism.
• Plan differentiated activities that support both academic progress and wider personal development.
• Monitor pupil progress and contribute towards EHCP targets and reviews.
• Establish a calm, structured and inclusive classroom where pupils feel secure and ready to learn.
• Work closely with Teaching Assistants, pastoral staff, therapists and other professionals to ensure consistent support.
• Encourage pupils to develop confidence, communication skills, independence and positive relationships.
• Use appropriate and consistent strategies to support behaviour and emotional regulation.
• Contribute to meetings, training, school activities and the wider life of the school.

The Ideal Candidate:

• Holds QTS or QTLS (Qualified Teacher Status), or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
• Has experience working with pupils with Autism or other additional needs, ideally within a specialist or SEND environment.
• Can adapt teaching methods and resources to meet a wide range of individual needs.
• Has strong classroom management skills and a patient, consistent and nurturing approach.
• Builds positive relationships with pupils and works effectively with colleagues and external professionals.
• Is flexible, resilient and committed to helping pupils achieve their full potential.

• An up-to-date CV detailing your full education and employment history.
• Proof of Right to Work and UK address.
• A valid DBS certificate on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one.
• At least 2 professional references.
• A professional, reliable and enthusiastic approach to your work.
