SEMH Support Assistant - Secondary School

Veritas Education is working with a supportive and inclusive secondary school in Twickenham that is seeking a compassionate, resilient, and motivated SEMH Support Assistant to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to gain experience in special educational needs, mental health support, youth work, pastoral care, or education.



The Role

  • Supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs across Key Stages 3 and 4
  • Providing 1:1 and small group interventions to help students regulate emotions, develop coping strategies, and engage positively with learning
  • Supporting pupils who may display challenging behaviour, anxiety, low self-esteem, or emotional dysregulation
  • Building positive and trusting relationships with students and acting as a consistent role model
  • Assisting teachers in creating a calm, supportive, and inclusive learning environment
  • Working closely with the SENCO, pastoral team, and external professionals to support individual student needs
  • Encouraging positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing, and personal development both inside and outside the classroom

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • An interest in SEMH, Special Educational Needs, youth work, psychology, counselling, mentoring, or related fields
  • The ability to remain calm and resilient in challenging situations
  • A positive attitude and commitment to helping students achieve their potential
  • Previous experience supporting young people with additional needs is desirable but not essential
