SEN Functional Skills Tutor – 1:1 Maths and English

Are you an experienced Functional Skills Tutor or SEN educator looking for consistent, rewarding work with a positive work-life balance?

New Chapter Tuition is recruiting experienced tutors to deliver specialist 1:1 Functional Skills Maths and English tuition, from Entry Level 1–3 through to Level 1 and Level 2, supporting young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Working alongside Local Authorities, schools and families, we provide personalised, trauma-informed education that helps learners rebuild confidence, develop essential skills and progress towards independence, further education and employment.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging, differentiated 1:1 Functional Skills Maths and/or English tuition from Entry Level through to Level 2.

• Support learners with Autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH, EBSA, anxiety and additional learning needs.

• Plan individualised lessons aligned with learner abilities, EHCP outcomes and Functional Skills requirements.

• Develop practical literacy, numeracy, problem-solving and everyday life skills.

• Complete baseline assessments, monitor progress and provide weekly tuition reports.

• Prepare learners for Functional Skills assessments using appropriate resources and exam-style practice.

Tuition takes place face-to-face in learners' homes, libraries, schools and community settings.

Essential Requirements

• Proven experience delivering Functional Skills Maths and/or English at Entry Level, Level 1 or Level 2.

• Previous experience teaching or tutoring children and young people with SEND.

• Strong understanding of differentiated teaching and personalised learning.

• Confidence supporting learners working below age-related expectations.

• Excellent communication, organisation and safeguarding awareness.

• Commitment to regular weekly timetables and ability to travel to tuition locations.

QTS, QTLS or a relevant teaching qualification is desirable but not essential. Relevant Functional Skills and SEND teaching experience is essential.
