Make a real difference every day as an SEN Teaching Assistant

Education First is recruiting an experienced and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Barking, East London, starting in January.

The successful candidate will work within the school's Additionally Resourced Provision (ARP), supporting primary-aged pupils with a range of special educational needs.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced SEN TA, SEND Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant looking for a long-term position within a supportive primary school environment.

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant working within the school's ARP, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with additional needs
  • Support pupils with Autism / ASC, ADHD and communication needs
  • Help pupils access learning and participate in classroom activities
  • Support pupils with speech, language and communication difficulties
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation
  • Encourage independence, confidence and social development
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils
  • Adapt activities and learning to meet individual needs
  • Follow individual support plans and EHCP outcomes
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider support team

What We're Looking For

We're particularly interested in candidates with:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN/SEND
  • Experience supporting pupils with Autism / ASC
  • Experience within a primary school, ARP, SEN school or specialist provision
  • Experience providing 1:1 or small-group support
  • A calm, patient and nurturing approach
  • The ability to build strong relationships with pupils
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • A good understanding of safeguarding
  • A relevant Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Education, Childcare or Supporting Teaching and Learning is desirable

Experience supporting children with complex needs, ADHD, SEMH or speech and language needs would also be advantageous.
