SEN Teaching Assistant (ASD Focus) – EYFS

Think Education Partners is supporting a welcoming, inclusive primary school in the heart of Kings Cross, Camden, to appoint a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant with a strong focus on supporting children with autism (ASD) in the Early Years Foundation Stage.

About the role
You will work closely with the EYFS class teacher and SENCO to provide autism‑specific, high‑quality support to children in Nursery and Reception, including those with EHCPs.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing 1:1 and small‑group support for children with ASD, following EHCPs and SEND support plans
- Supporting children’s communication, social interaction, emotional regulation and sensory needs
- Using structured approaches such as visual timetables, now/next boards, TEACCH‑informed routines and sensory regulation strategies
- Recording observations and contributing to EHCP reviews and multi‑agency meetings
- Building positive, trusting relationships with children and families
- Helping to create a predictable, nurturing and autism‑friendly EYFS environment that supports engagement and independence
Essential requirements
- Experience supporting children with ASD or other SEND needs, ideally in EYFS or primary
- Understanding of early child development, sensory processing and communication differences
- Awareness of EHCPs and the SEND Code of Practice
- A calm, patient and child‑centred approach
- GCSE English and Maths (grade C/4 or above)
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in childcare, education or SEN
