Experienced SEN Teaching Assistant – Camden, Immediate Start

A Camden school is looking for an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant who knows how to provide consistent, purposeful support to pupils with additional needs. This is an immediate-start position for someone who has already worked within SEN and understands that effective support is about far more than staying beside a pupil in lessons. You’ll use your experience to recognise individual needs, anticipate barriers to learning and help pupils become increasingly confident and independent. The school is particularly interested in candidates who can establish trust while maintaining clear routines, expectations and boundaries.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you’ll work closely with teachers and the school’s SEN team to provide structured support throughout the school day. Your previous experience should mean you are comfortable adapting your approach according to the pupil, whether that involves breaking learning into manageable steps, supporting communication, managing dysregulation or reinforcing strategies established by specialist staff. You’ll be expected to contribute observations and communicate clearly with colleagues about progress and emerging needs. For an experienced practitioner looking for a long-term Camden position, this offers the chance to put established SEN skills to proper use.

Key Highlights:

  • Role: Experienced SEN Teaching Assistant working directly with pupils with additional needs
  • Salary: Competitive daily rate, dependent on experience
  • Location: Camden, North London
  • Ofsted: School-specific inspection grade available on application
  • Contract: Full-time, long-term SEN support position
  • Start: Immediate, with interviews taking place as suitable candidates apply
  • Focus: Structured academic, behavioural, communication and pastoral support
  • Opportunity: Build further specialist experience within a long-term school placement

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Providing targeted 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with identified SEN
  • Adapting classroom activities so pupils can access learning without unnecessary dependence on adult support
  • Implementing individual strategies agreed with teachers, SENCOs and relevant specialists
  • Monitoring changes in engagement, communication, behaviour and academic progress
  • Reinforcing consistent routines and expectations throughout lessons and transitions
  • Encouraging pupils to develop confidence, self-regulation and greater independence
  • Recording useful observations and feeding them back accurately to teaching and SEN staff

Ideal Candidate for this Camden School:

  • Offers substantial previous experience as an SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or equivalent
  • Understands how additional needs can affect communication, learning, behaviour and emotional regulation
  • Demonstrates experience supporting needs such as autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, SEMH or associated learning needs
  • Maintains a calm and consistent approach when pupils become anxious, overwhelmed or dysregulated
  • Builds positive professional relationships without creating unnecessary pupil dependence
  • Communicates confidently with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral colleagues and other professionals
  • Commits to a full-time, long-term SEN Teaching Assistant position in Camden

Why Join This Camden School?

  • Apply your existing SEN experience in a role where skilled intervention is genuinely valued
  • Strengthen your knowledge of individualised approaches to learning, communication and regulation
  • Develop further experience working alongside teachers and SEN professionals
  • Take responsibility for meaningful pupil support rather than operating as a general classroom assistant

  • Broaden your SEN practice through direct involvement in planning, observation and progress monitoring
