Salary: £92.56 – £105 per day
Contract: Full-time, temporary, long-term

Phase: Primary – KS1/KS2
Salary is dependent on experience and qualifications. Higher rates are available for candidates with extensive SEN experience and relevant training. Pay is determined in line with Agency Worker Regulations (AWR), where applicable.

Teach Now is recruiting for a dedicated and emotionally intelligent SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with SEMH and ADHD within a caring primary school in Merton. This long-term role is ideal for someone who is patient, resilient and passionate about helping children feel safe, understood and ready to learn.
The school offers a warm and inclusive environment where pupils are supported both academically and pastorally. Staff work closely together to create consistent routines, positive relationships and tailored support for children who may need additional help with focus, confidence, emotional regulation or behaviour.

The Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils across KS1 and KS2 with SEMH and ADHD needs. You will help children access classroom learning, manage transitions, build independence and develop positive strategies for communication and self-regulation.

Key Responsibilities
• Support pupils with SEMH and ADHD in class and during targeted interventions.
• Help children engage with learning through structured, accessible activities.
• Use calm and consistent behaviour-support strategies.
• Encourage emotional regulation, confidence and positive social interaction.
• Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider pastoral team.
• Support pupils during transitions, routines and less structured parts of the day.
• Contribute to observations, progress updates and individual support planning.

Requirements
• Previous experience supporting children with SEMH, ADHD or additional needs.
• Experience in a primary school, SEN setting, behaviour support role or similar child-focused environment.
• A calm, confident and consistent approach to supporting behaviour.
• Good understanding of safeguarding and inclusive practice.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build trust with pupils.
• Relevant qualifications are desirable, such as Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, childcare, youth work, psychology or SEND training.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.
