Sen Teaching Assistant

We are seeking a compassionate, motivated, and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming mainstream primary school in Erdington. This is a full time role starting in September 2026, with the opportunity to secure a permanent position for the successful candidate.

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play an important role in supporting pupils with a range of additional needs. Working closely with the class teacher and SEND team, you will provide one to one support, assist with small group activities, and help pupils engage confidently in classroom learning.

Key Responsibilities

• Support pupils with Special Educational Needs throughout the school day.

• Work alongside teachers to deliver engaging and inclusive learning activities.

• Provide one to one and small group support to help pupils achieve their individual learning goals.

• Encourage positive behaviour, independence, confidence, and communication.

• Adapt learning resources and classroom activities to meet individual needs.

• Support pupils with their emotional wellbeing and social development.

• Build strong relationships with pupils, colleagues, parents, carers, and external professionals.

• Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to teaching staff.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is caring, reliable, and passionate about supporting children with additional needs.

The successful candidate will have:

• A degree, or be in their final year of university, in any subject, or relevant experience working with children or young people.

• Experience supporting children or young people with Special Educational Needs is desirable but not essential.

• A patient, understanding, and resilient approach.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• The ability to build positive working relationships with pupils and colleagues.

• A genuine passion for helping children develop confidence and achieve success.

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training or qualifications required for this position is previous experience working in a school setting.
