A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Barnet is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to provide personalised support for two pupils with high Special Educational Needs in Year 1 and Year 4. This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled practitioner who thrives on building meaningful relationships, promoting independence and helping children overcome barriers to learning.

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers, the SENCo and external professionals to deliver tailored support that enables pupils to access the curriculum, develop social and communication skills, and achieve their individual targets.

This is a long-term position where you will have the opportunity to support the same pupils throughout the academic year, making a genuine and sustained impact on their educational journey.

Key Responsibilities
• Provide dedicated 1:1 support for pupils with high SEN needs in Year 1 and Year 4.
• Deliver targeted interventions and implement individual support plans.
• Adapt learning activities and resources to meet specific learning needs.
• Support communication, emotional regulation, social interaction and positive behaviour.
• Use structured routines, visual supports and consistent strategies to maximise engagement.
• Monitor progress and contribute to pupil reviews through accurate observations and feedback.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, families and external professionals to ensure the best outcomes for pupils.
• Maintain high standards of safeguarding, professionalism and confidentiality.

About You
• Proven experience supporting pupils with SEN in a UK primary school or specialist setting.
• Strong understanding of needs including Autism, ADHD, SEMH, communication and language difficulties, or developmental delay.
• Confident using behaviour support strategies and structured interventions.
• Patient, resilient and able to remain calm in challenging situations.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Committed to inclusive education and helping every child achieve their potential.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.

Salary is dependent on experience and qualifications. Higher rates are reserved for candidates with substantial experience and/or relevant training. Pay is determined in line with school expectations and Agency Worker Regulations (AWR), where applicable.
