Are you an experienced 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant who enjoys helping children overcome barriers to learning?
Teach Now is looking for a caring, patient and proactive 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to support a Year 5 pupil with ADHD at a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Barnet. This is a rewarding long-term opportunity for someone who can build positive relationships, encourage engagement and help a child develop the confidence and strategies needed to succeed in the classroom.
Working closely with the class teacher and SEN team, youll play a vital role in helping the pupil stay focused, access learning and reach their full potential, while also contributing to the wider classroom environment.
The Role
As a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:
• Provide dedicated support for a Year 5 pupil with ADHD.
• Break learning into manageable steps and adapt activities to maintain engagement.
• Use regular movement and brain breaks to help the pupil remain focused throughout the day.
• Encourage positive behaviour, independence and confidence in learning.
• Deliver small-group interventions when required.
• Support the class teacher with general classroom activities and pupil progress.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff and parents to ensure consistent support.
About You
The ideal 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant will have:
• Experience supporting children with ADHD, SEND or additional learning needs within a UK primary school.
• A calm, positive and resilient approach to behaviour management.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• The ability to adapt learning strategies to meet individual needs.
• Confidence delivering interventions and supporting whole-class learning when required.
• A genuine passion for helping children achieve both academically and personally.
