SEN Teaching Assistant (Reception) – Part Time

Pay: £100–£105 per day
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Part Time (Mondays & Fridays), Long Term, Temporary

Salary is based on experience and qualifications. Higher rates apply to candidates with significant experience and/or qualifications. 

Are you a compassionate and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding part-time role in Early Years?

A welcoming primary school in Barnet is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Reception pupil with additional needs. This is an excellent opportunity to make a genuine difference to a childs learning, confidence and development while working within a supportive and experienced team.

The pupil is non-verbal and requires a calm, patient and consistent adult who can help them engage with classroom learning, develop communication skills and build positive relationships throughout the school day.

The school is committed to ensuring every child receives the support they need to thrive. Reading and language development are central to the curriculum, with a strong focus on high-quality phonics teaching and creating an inclusive environment where every pupil can succeed.

Key Responsibilities
Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Reception pupil with SEND.
Encourage communication, independence and social interaction throughout the school day.
Adapt learning activities to meet the childs individual needs.
Support play-based learning and Early Years routines.
Work collaboratively with the class teacher, SENDCo and wider staff to implement support strategies.
Help create a positive, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

• Has previous experience supporting children with SEND, ideally within EYFS or Key Stage 1.
• Is patient, caring and able to build trusting relationships with young children.
• Has experience supporting non-verbal pupils or using communication strategies such as visual supports (desirable).
• Understands the importance of early language, communication and phonics development.
• Is reliable, proactive and enjoys working as part of a collaborative team.
