Are you a caring and patient SEN Teaching Assistant – Early Years who is passionate about helping young children thrive?
A welcoming, community-focused primary school in Islington is seeking a committed SEN Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a high-needs pupil in Reception. The school offers an inclusive environment where close relationships between pupils, families and staff are highly valued.
The Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant – Early Years, you will:
• Provide consistent 1:1 support throughout the school day.
• Help the pupil access play-based learning, classroom activities and daily routines.
• Adapt activities to reflect the childs individual needs and targets.
• Encourage communication, interaction, independence and emotional regulation.
• Support transitions, breaktimes and other less structured activities.
• Implement strategies agreed by the teacher, SENCO and external professionals.
• Monitor progress and share observations with the wider support team.
• Promote positive behaviour and successful engagement with peers.
Requirements
The successful candidate will have:
• Experience supporting children with SEN, ideally in Early Years or primary education.
• Confidence working 1:1 with a child who has high or complex needs.
• A calm, compassionate and resilient approach.
• An understanding of communication, sensory and emotional-regulation needs.
• The initiative to respond proactively while following professional guidance.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• A genuine commitment to helping children reach their potential.
Experience supporting autism, speech and language needs, ADHD, SEMH or complex learning needs would be highly beneficial.
