Bright Star Talent is proud to be recruiting on behalf of a thriving and inclusive primary school in Birmingham seeking an experienced and dedicated SENCO to join its leadership team.

This well-established Ofsted-rated "Good" school serves approximately 700 pupils, including 200 pupils identified with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). The school has a strong reputation for inclusive practice and provides extensive specialist support, including an on-site Speech and Language Therapy provision and two self-funded SEN Units supporting pupils with a range of additional needs.

About the Role

As SENCO, you will lead and coordinate the school's SEND provision, ensuring that pupils receive the support, guidance, and interventions required to achieve their full potential. You will work closely with senior leaders, teachers, support staff, parents, and external agencies to maintain and further develop the school's highly effective inclusive practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the strategic development of SEND provision across the school.
  • Oversee support for approximately 200 pupils with SEND.
  • Coordinate and monitor Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and SEND support plans.
  • Manage and develop the provision within the school's two SEN Units.
  • Work collaboratively with the on-site Speech and Language team to support pupils' communication needs.
  • Provide guidance, training, and support to teaching and support staff.
  • Monitor pupil progress and evaluate the impact of interventions.
  • Liaise effectively with parents, carers, external professionals, and local authority services.
  • Ensure compliance with the SEND Code of Practice and statutory requirements.
  • Support the school's commitment to inclusion, safeguarding, and pupil wellbeing.
  • Contribute to school improvement planning and strategic leadership initiatives.

Candidate Requirements

  • National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO).
  • Proven experience working with SEND pupils within a primary school setting.
  • Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and EHCP processes.
  • Experience working with speech and language needs, autism, cognition and learning needs, and social, emotional, and mental health needs.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with staff, families, and external agencies.
  • A commitment to inclusive education and improving outcomes for all pupils.
