We are looking to appoint an experienced and dedicated NASENCO-qualified SENCO to join a small and supportive Alternative Provision setting in Kings Heath, Birmingham.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a SENCO who is passionate about supporting young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and who understands the unique challenges and rewards of working within an Alternative Provision environment.

The Role

As SENCO, you will be responsible for leading and developing SEND provision across the setting. Working closely with staff, pupils, families and external professionals, you will ensure that every young person receives the appropriate support needed to make progress.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and coordinating SEND provision across the setting.
  • Ensuring pupils' additional needs are accurately identified and effectively supported.
  • Overseeing and contributing to EHCP processes and annual reviews.
  • Working closely with parents, carers and external agencies.
  • Supporting staff with appropriate strategies and interventions.
  • Monitoring pupil progress and the impact of SEND provision.
  • Ensuring the setting meets its statutory SEND responsibilities.
  • Maintaining accurate SEND records and documentation.
  • Promoting an inclusive, nurturing and supportive learning environment.



We are seeking someone who:

  • Holds the NASENCO qualification (essential).
  • Has strong knowledge and understanding of SEND legislation and best practice.
  • Has experience working with children or young people with additional needs.
  • Ideally has experience within Alternative Provision, PRU or specialist settings.
  • Is confident working with families and multi-agency professionals.
  • Is organised, proactive and able to work independently.
  • Has a calm, compassionate and child-centred approach.
  • Is committed to improving outcomes for young people who may have experienced barriers to education.
