Quantum Scholars is looking for a supportive, patient and experienced SEND Maths Tutor to provide personalised Maths tuition to children and young people across Somerset. This is an in-person tutoring role and is not online work.

The role will involve providing tailored Maths support to students who may have SEND and/or SEMH needs and would benefit from a flexible, individualised approach to learning. You will be expected to build positive and trusting relationships with students, adapt your teaching to meet their individual needs and help develop their confidence, engagement and progress in Maths.

The successful tutor will be able to create engaging and accessible lessons while remaining flexible to each student's pace, ability and learning needs. Experience working with students who have struggled within a traditional school environment would be particularly beneficial.

The role may involve

  • Delivering one-to-one or small-group Maths tuition
  • Supporting students with areas of the Maths curriculum appropriate to their age and ability
  • Planning engaging, accessible and appropriately challenging learning activities
  • Adapting teaching approaches to suit different abilities, learning needs and levels of engagement
  • Identifying and addressing gaps in mathematical knowledge and understanding
  • Helping students develop confidence and a positive attitude towards Maths
  • Supporting students with numeracy, problem-solving and mathematical reasoning skills
  • Developing independent learning and study skills
  • Helping students re-engage with education in a positive and meaningful way
  • Monitoring progress and providing appropriate feedback
  • Building positive, consistent and trusting relationships with students
  • Working collaboratively with parents, carers and relevant professionals where required
  • Maintaining clear and professional communication
  • Following safeguarding procedures at all times

Essential requirements

  • Experience teaching or tutoring Maths to children or young people
  • A good understanding of the relevant Maths curriculum
  • Experience working with students with SEND and/or SEMH needs
  • Experience delivering one-to-one or personalised educational support is desirable
  • The ability to plan and deliver engaging, personalised Maths lessons
  • Strong communication, organisation and relationship-building skills
  • A patient, calm, flexible and supportive approach
  • The ability to adapt teaching to meet individual learning needs
  • A genuine commitment to supporting young people to achieve their potential
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
  • Willingness to undertake an enhanced DBS check, where required
  • Satisfactory professional references
  • You must have the right to work in the UK.
