We are seeking a dedicated Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo) to join a highly regarded secondary school in Birmingham from September 2026, at the start of the new academic year. The Role

As SENDCo, you will lead and manage the school's SEND provision, ensuring that students with additional needs receive high-quality support and access to an inclusive educational experience.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and developing the school's SEND strategy and provision
  • Identifying and assessing students with special educational needs and disabilities
  • Working collaboratively with senior leaders, teachers, support staff, parents, carers and external agencies
  • Monitoring student progress and implementing effective intervention strategies
  • Managing EHCP processes and annual reviews
  • Supporting staff with SEND best practice and inclusive teaching strategies
  • Ensuring compliance with SEND legislation and statutory requirements
  • Promoting a culture of inclusion across the school

Essential Requirements

  • National Professional Qualification (NPQ) for SENDCos (or equivalent mandatory SENDCo qualification)
  • Previous experience working as a SENDCo within a secondary school setting
  • Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and current SEND legislation
  • Experience managing EHCPs and working with external agencies
  • Excellent communication, leadership and organisational skills
  • A commitment to improving outcomes for students with SEND

Desirable

  • Significant experience leading SEND provision in a secondary school
  • Experience contributing to whole-school improvement initiatives
  • Ability to support and develop teaching staff through coaching and training
