Michael Taylor Search & Selection
Location: Central London
Salary: Open Dependent on Experience
Working: Hybrid – 1 day working from home
The Opportunity
A long-established and highly regarded specialist interiors contractor is looking to appoint a Senior BIM Designer to join their growing Design team.
The business delivers specialist interior packages across the commercial construction sector, including fit-out, joinery, drywall, ceilings, glasswall and washroom solutions. With a strong pipeline of upcoming work, they are investing further in their design and BIM capabilities and are looking to bring more 3D modelling expertise in-house.
This is a new position within the business, giving the successful candidate a genuine opportunity to shape how BIM is delivered across the company.
The existing Design team primarily works in AutoCAD and has some basic Revit capability, with 3D modelling currently outsourced. The requirement is therefore for someone who can be hands-on with Revit while also helping develop the wider team's BIM knowledge and internal processes.
The Role
You'll take a leading role in the company's 3D design and BIM delivery, producing models for projects while helping establish more efficient and consistent ways of working internally.
The role will combine hands-on Revit modelling, BIM coordination and design with an element of training and process development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Produce detailed 3D models using Autodesk Revit for live projects.
- Take ownership of the company's 3D/BIM delivery from a design and coordination perspective.
- Work in accordance with Client BIM Execution Plans (BEPs) and project requirements.
- Carry out clash detection and coordination.
- Produce and manage Builderswork models.
- Coordinate models with project teams and other disciplines.
- Help develop and implement the company's internal BIM processes, standards and workflows.
- Work closely with the existing Design team to improve their use of Revit and 3D modelling.
- Provide training, guidance and support to Designers who currently have basic Revit knowledge.
- Help reduce the company's reliance on outsourced 3D modelling by developing a stronger in-house capability.
- Work alongside the wider pre-construction, design and delivery teams to ensure BIM is being effectively utilised throughout projects.
About You
We're looking for someone with strong practical experience in Revit and BIM, who is comfortable being hands-on with modelling but also has the knowledge and communication skills to help develop others.
You'll ideally have:
- Strong commercial experience using Autodesk Revit.
- Proven experience delivering projects through 3D modelling.
- Good knowledge of BIM processes and standards.
- Experience working to Client BIM Execution Plans.
- Experience with clash detection and model coordination.
- Experience producing Builderswork models.
- The confidence to develop BIM processes and introduce improved ways of working.
- Experience supporting, mentoring or training other Designers in Revit.
- A background in design / technical design would be advantageous.
- Experience within fit-out, interiors, joinery would be beneficial, although sector experience is not essential.
Most importantly, you'll be someone who can look at the current way of working, identify where BIM and 3D can add value, and help the business develop its capability.
Why Join?
This is a chance to join a well-established specialist contractor at an important point in the development of its Design function.
You'll have genuine ownership over the development of BIM and 3D modelling within the business, rather than simply joining an established BIM team and working within someone else's processes.
The role offers:
- Hybrid working with 1 day from home
- Choice of London or Bishop's Stortford location
- A newly created role with genuine scope to make an impact
- The opportunity to shape internal BIM processes
- Responsibility for bringing more 3D modelling capability in-house
- The opportunity to train and develop an existing Design team
- A strong pipeline of upcoming projects and continued investment in the business
This would suit an experienced Senior BIM Designer, BIM Designer, Revit Designer or Technical Designer who wants to take more ownership of BIM and play a key role in developing a company's 3D capability.
