Behind Every Great Crumble Is a Great Team - Ready to be Part of That?

In 2018, our Founder Kim set up a crumble stall at Primrose Hill Farmers’ Market. Two years later, in the middle of lockdown, her Pumpkin-Spiced Crumble went viral and the queues never stopped.

Welcome to Humble Crumble.

Today, Humble Crumble is the world’s first crumble bakery. It’s a multi-million-pound business with bakeries across London, including Borough Market, Camden, Spitalfields and Seven Dials, plus a growing wholesale arm and a following of close to 250,000 on social media - you might recently have seen our special Royal guests.

What began as an entrepreneurial passion has grown into a thriving, multi-site hospitality business, with ambitious plans for further expansion.

And the remarkable part? We've built our success by reinvesting profits and growing on our own terms, without outside funding.

Now we're looking for an experienced Senior Bookkeeper to take ownership of our finances and become a trusted partner to our founders.

This is more than processing invoices and reconciling the bank. We need someone who understands the numbers, knows what they're telling us and can help us make better decisions as we grow.

The Humble Crumble Story

Humble Crumble was created with a belief that a humble British classic could become something truly special.

By combining freshly prepared crumble, delicious toppings and a genuine love of good food, we've turned a nostalgic favourite into a distinctive bakery experience.

Behind the queues and excitement is a business built on determination, smart decisions and a team that genuinely cares.

Our growth has been entirely self-funded, with profits reinvested into our people, products and customer experience.

With further expansion ahead and opportunities across new retail and wholesale channels, we're building the foundations for our next chapter.

Your Role in the Story

Sales have more than doubled year on year since 2020, and the finance function now needs to grow up with the business. That’s where you come in. We’re looking for an experienced Senior Bookkeeper to own the numbers across both businesses: keep two sets of books clean and close the month with confidence.

You'll become the person our founders rely on to keep the financial side of the business accurate, organised and under control.

Taking ownership of the finances for two independent brands, Humble Crumble and Chai Guys, you'll manage day-to-day bookkeeping, reconciliations, month-end reporting, management accounts and VAT, working closely with our external accountants.

But we want someone who goes beyond the transactions.

Someone who notices changing costs, spots unusual trends, understands what affects margins and confidently asks why.

Someone who can explain the numbers in plain English, see the bigger picture and help us build a finance function that supports our growth.

What success looks like:

• Own day-to-day bookkeeping for Humble Crumble and Chai Guys using Xero and Dext.
• Manage two sets of accounts, keeping intercompany transactions, recharges and balances accurate.
• Complete bank, card and EPOS reconciliations across multiple bakery locations.
• Process supplier invoices, payment runs and creditor records.
• Track sales, wholesale accounts, cash receipts and outstanding payments.
• Own month-end close, journals, accruals and management accounts.
• Prepare VAT returns and coordinate with payroll providers and external accountants.
• Monitor costs, stock-related financial information and margins, identifying trends and discrepancies.
• Provide clear financial reporting and practical insights to support the founders' decisions.
• Improve finance processes, controls and reporting as the businesses expand.

About You

You're a confident, capable Senior Bookkeeper who enjoys taking responsibility and being the person others trust to get things right.

You've moved beyond processing transactions. You understand how the numbers fit together, can produce management accounts and know how to keep multiple businesses financially organised.

Ideally, you've worked within a fast- growing hospitality, restaurant, bakery or food and drink business where there are multiple sites and revenue streams.

You'll also bring:

• At least AAT Level 4 / MAAT qualification, or equivalent senior bookkeeping experience.
• Proven experience independently managing multiple sets of company accounts.
• Strong, hands-on knowledge of Xero and Dext.
• Experience owning month-end and preparing management accounts.
• Confidence with bank, card, EPOS, supplier and intercompany reconciliations.
• Experience with VAT returns, payroll liaison and external accountants.
• Excellent accuracy, organisation and attention to detail.
• The ability to explain financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues.
• Commercial curiosity, initiative and the confidence to question figures.
• The independence and adaptability to thrive in a founder-led, growing business.

Highly Desirable

• Multi-site hospitality, restaurant, coffee, bakery or food retail experience.
• Exposure to both wholesale and retail revenue channels.
• Understanding of stock, ingredient costs, gross margins and food-related financial controls.

The Person Behind the Numbers

You're someone who spots a discrepancy before anyone asks, investigates it and gets it resolved.

You enjoy understanding how a business operates, why costs change and what the figures mean.

You're hardworking, honest, approachable and comfortable having direct conversations. You take ownership, learn from mistakes and enjoy being part of a team that supports one another.

What's on Offer

• Private Medical Insurance
• Free Humble Crumble, Chai and Pastries
• Direct access to the Founders and genuine financial ownership
• Opportunity to shape and improve the Finance function
• Potential progression into a Finance Manager role
• A supportive, ambitious and collaborative team
• The opportunity to join two growing, independent Food and Drink brands

Why Join Humble Crumble?

This is more than a bookkeeping job.

It's the chance to become a key part of an independent, founder-led business that's building something special.

You'll join a company where people are encouraged to contribute ideas, take responsibility and grow their careers.

As we continue to expand, there's genuine potential for this position to develop into a broader Finance Manager role, with the possibility of building a finance team around you.

Ready to Be Part of the Humble Crumble Story?

If you're an experienced Senior Bookkeeper who loves accurate numbers, understands growing hospitality businesses and wants genuine ownership of your work, we'd love to hear from you.
