An opportunity for a skilled Mid/Senior C++ Software Engineer to join a small, highly technical development team building high‑performance applications for complex real‑time systems. The role involves developing advanced navigation, surveillance, sensor‑integration and UI components used in demanding operational environments.
You’ll work in an agile SCRUM team, using modern C++ and industry‑standard tools to deliver robust, efficient and scalable software. This role suits someone who enjoys solving deep technical problems, working with diverse technologies, and contributing to mission‑critical systems.
Key Responsibilities

Capture and analyse technical requirements, including estimating delivery milestones

Design, implement and maintain software across multiple application types:

Back‑end database management

Communication infrastructure
-
Client‑server systems
-

Develop front‑end graphical user interfaces

Create, document and execute software tests, including unit tests and simulation tools

Evaluate and recommend new technologies, tools and processes
-
Produce progress‑tracking information for stakeholders

Collaborate effectively within an agile SCRUM team
Required Skills & Experience

Strong C++ development skills with object‑oriented design

Excellent debugging and fault‑isolation abilities
-
Understanding of configuration management tools (e.g., Subversion)

Solid knowledge of data structures and algorithms
-
Experience with front‑end UI development

Understanding of network programming and data serialisation
-
Experience with database design, coding and administration
-
Familiarity with component‑based architectures (e.g., SOA, plugin‑based UI)
-
Ability to integrate with third‑party sensors or applications (e.g., radar, cameras)
Desired Technologies
Experience with any of the following is highly beneficial:
C++, Qt Framework, ACE, POCO, STL, XML
Network programming (UDP/TCP)
PostgreSQL
GStreamer
MS Visual Studio for C++ development
Cross‑platform build tools (MPC, CMake)
Windows and Linux development
Publish‑subscribe middleware (e.g., DDS)
Desired Domain Knowledge
Candidates with experience in any of the following areas will stand out:
Command‑and‑control (C2) systems
Radar integration, display and tracking
Electronic chart systems and chart‑engine integration
Video display and camera‑control systems
AIS transponder integration
Shipborne sensor integration (GPS, Gyro, Speed Log) using NMEA protocols
