The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Contracts Engineer to support the delivery of major piling and ground engineering projects across Scotland. This role offers the chance to lead complex civil engineering works through planning, design and construction phases, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standards of quality. Working across a diverse portfolio of infrastructure and construction projects, you will play a key role in driving project success while providing technical leadership and support to project teams.

Your duties and responsibilities will be
  • Lead and manage piling and civil engineering activities throughout planning, design and construction phases.
  • Develop and review project plans, specifications, cost estimates and delivery strategies.
  • Coordinate with project managers, design engineers and multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful project execution.
  • Carry out site inspections and assessments to ensure compliance with specifications, quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to engineers and site teams.
  • Prepare and present technical reports, project updates and proposals to key stakeholders.
  • Identify and mitigate risks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Manage internal teams and subcontractors to ensure effective resource allocation and project performance.
  • Ensure all construction activities comply with contractual obligations, design requirements and project management plans.
  • Develop and review method statements, risk assessments, ITPs and work package plans.
  • Monitor project progress, productivity and programme performance, implementing corrective actions where required.
  • Promote and maintain strong Health, Safety and Environmental standards, supporting a culture of Zero Harm.
  • Manage project records, as-built information and handover documentation.
  • Participate in client meetings and pre-contract discussions to support successful project delivery.

You will have the following qualifications & experience:
  • 5+ years' experience within the construction industry, with a proven track record of delivering civil engineering projects.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience coordinating and managing multiple teams and workstreams.
  • Good commercial awareness and experience managing scheme costs.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams and deliver results safely and efficiently.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and project management software.
  • SSSTS or SMSTS certification.
  • Valid CSCS card.

It’s great if you also have the following
  • Experience working for a piling, ground engineering or civil engineering subcontractor.
  • Civil Engineering Degree or equivalent qualification.

The setting for the role
This role supports projects across Scotland, with flexibility expected to work on projects throughout the region as business needs require. While the position is primarily site-based, there will also be opportunities to work from the Scotland head office in Motherwell during pre-construction phases, alongside flexibility for hybrid/home working where project requirements allow. Every effort will be made to align project assignments with the successful candidate's geographical location where possible.
