Senior Data Centre Technician / Break Fix / AI Data Centre

TGS International Group

Senior Data Center Technician (Break/Fix) — Chester
£40,000 - £43,000 + Benefits | Permanent | 35 hours per week (Early/Late shifts 07:00 - 19:00)

Please note: this role does NOT offer visa sponsorship. Applicants must already hold the full right to work in the UK.

Are you an experienced data centre technician ready to step up into a senior, hands-on role at the sharp end of AI infrastructure? This is a rare opportunity to join one of Europe's fastest-growing AI infrastructure providers, supporting the deployment and operation of next-generation AI and high-performance computing environments.

The role is permanently based in Chester, but your journey starts with a fully supported two-month training programme across AI data centre sites throughout the UK and Europe. You'll work alongside experienced engineering teams and gain live exposure to hyperscale environments, NVIDIA GPU infrastructure, InfiniBand networking and large-scale AI deployments — before returning to Chester as part of a highly skilled operations team. Applicants must be willing and able to travel and be based away from home for this two-month period.

As the senior technician on shift, you'll be the primary technical escalation point before incidents go to the Remote Operations Team, leading complex technical activity and mentoring junior technicians in a mission-critical environment.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Smart Hands services — server reseats, drive replacements, transceiver swaps, cable replacements, inspections and photographic documentation
  • Rack & Stack deployments, structured copper and fibre cabling, PDU installations and infrastructure commissioning
  • Server break/fix — diagnosing and resolving hardware, server and networking faults across mission-critical systems
  • Leading the deployment and commissioning of enterprise and high-density GPU server platforms supporting AI compute
  • Supporting Ethernet and InfiniBand fabric deployments within high-performance computing environments
  • Acting as the primary technical escalation point on shift, ahead of the Remote Operations Team
  • Resolving complex issues involving BMC/IPMI, server hardware, DPUs and InfiniBand networking
  • Mentoring Junior Data Center Technicians and acting as customer-facing technical contact where required
  • Producing runbooks, Root Cause Analysis (RCA) reports and operational documentation
  • Managing RMAs, inventory and asset tracking, and keeping ITSM/Jira tickets accurate and up to date

What We're Looking For

Essential

  • Previous experience working within a live enterprise or hyperscale data centre
  • Strong knowledge of Rack & Stack deployments and structured copper/fibre cabling
  • Hands-on PDU installation experience
  • Proven server break/fix and hardware diagnostics experience
  • Smart Hands / server component replacement experience
  • Knowledge of Ethernet networking and data centre infrastructure
  • Experience using ITSM platforms and maintaining accurate technical documentation
  • Strong troubleshooting, organisational and communication skills, and able to work independently in a mission-critical environment
  • Willingness to complete the two-month training programme across the UK and Europe before settling into the Chester site
  • Full right to work in the UK — sponsorship is not available for this role

Desirable

  • NVIDIA GPU infrastructure, AI or High-Performance Computing (HPC) experience
  • InfiniBand networking, BMC/IPMI management or DPU deployment experience
  • Customer-facing technical support and Root Cause Analysis reporting experience
  • Qualification in IT, Computer Science or Engineering; vendor or data centre certifications (Dell, HPE, Lenovo, Cisco, CompTIA Server+/Network+)

What's On Offer

  • Permanent, full-time position with genuine long-term career prospects
  • £40,000 - £43,000 per annum plus a comprehensive benefits package
  • Fully supported two-month training programme across AI data centre sites in the UK and Europe
  • Specialist training in NVIDIA GPU infrastructure, AI technologies and HPC, with exposure to Europe's most advanced hyperscale AI facilities
  • Structured progression into Senior Engineering, Operations and Leadership roles

Candidates with a stable employment history in permanent data centre environments will be viewed particularly favourably. This is a long-term, career-focused opportunity and may be less suited to applicants whose experience consists primarily of short-term contract assignments.
