Senior Electrical Engineer
Aldwych Consulting
Senior Electrical Engineer - Data Centre
The Role
We're looking for an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to join a growing team working on major data centre and critical infrastructure projects across the UK and Europe.
This is a hands-on technical role for someone who enjoys working on complex electrical systems and wants to be involved in projects where reliability, resilience and performance are essential. You'll have the opportunity to work with major developers, operators, contractors and other specialist stakeholders, taking projects from the early design stages through to delivery and commissioning.
The projects will span a range of environments, including large-scale data centre campuses, colocation facilities and edge developments. You'll be working on increasingly demanding power requirements driven by high-density computing, AI infrastructure and the continued expansion of digital infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Take technical ownership of electrical engineering packages across a range of data centre projects.
- Develop practical and robust electrical solutions from initial concept through detailed design and delivery.
- Produce and review technical documentation, including calculations, drawings, specifications, reports and schedules.
- Design and assess critical power systems with a focus on resilience, availability and maintainability.
- Work across LV systems, generators, UPS, busbars, monitoring systems and associated electrical controls.
- Coordinate HV and MV requirements with utilities, network operators, specialist consultants, manufacturers and contractors.
- Work closely with other engineering disciplines to ensure fully coordinated project solutions.
- Review technical submissions, drawings and proposals from contractors and suppliers.
- Provide engineering support throughout procurement, construction and commissioning.
- Attend site when required to undertake inspections, resolve technical issues and support testing and commissioning activities.
- Take an active role in developing junior engineers, sharing knowledge and helping to maintain high technical standards across the team.
- Build strong working relationships with clients and confidently communicate technical information during meetings, workshops and design reviews.
About You
You'll be an experienced electrical engineer with a strong background in building services and a genuine interest in complex, technically demanding projects.
You should have:
- A degree, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Building Services or a related subject.
- Several years' experience working in electrical building services design.
- Experience taking projects through multiple design stages and supporting them through to construction and completion.
- A solid understanding of electrical distribution and critical power systems.
- Knowledge of UK legislation, regulations and industry standards, particularly BS 7671 and EN 50600.
- Experience working with Revit and within BIM-led design environments.
- Familiarity with electrical design packages such as EOM or comparable software.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- The confidence to take ownership of technical decisions and communicate effectively with clients, contractors and colleagues.
- The ability to manage your own workload while contributing effectively to a wider project team.
The Opportunity
This role offers the chance to work on some of the most technically interesting projects within the rapidly expanding digital infrastructure sector.
You'll have exposure to complex electrical systems, emerging technologies and large-scale developments, while working alongside experienced engineers and specialists. There is also significant scope to develop your technical expertise, take greater project responsibility and support the development of the next generation of engineers.
If you're an ambitious electrical engineer looking for a senior position where your technical input genuinely matters, we'd be keen to hear from you.
