Senior Electrical Fitter

We are recruiting for an experienced Senior Electrical Fitter to join an established engineering business based in Plymouth.

This is a hands-on role suited to a time-served Electrical Fitter or someone with equivalent experience in automation equipment.

You will be responsible for electrical panel building, machine integration, wiring and pneumatics, working from electrical drawings and supporting projects through to testing and commissioning.

The role is primarily workshop-based in Plymouth, with occasional travel to customer sites across the UK and overseas, typically for periods of up to two weeks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and wire electrical control panels to engineering and customer specifications.
  • Read and interpret electrical circuits, engineering drawings and layout drawings.
  • Install a range of electrical equipment including motors, motor starters, contactors, relays, PLCs and Safety PLCs.
  • Carry out electrical wiring and installation using a range of wiring systems and accessories.
  • Integrate pneumatic systems in line with electrical and pneumatic circuits.
  • Fault-find on electrical and pneumatic systems and equipment.
  • Inspect, test and commission electrical installations and machinery.
  • Accurately mark up electrical circuits and drawings where modifications are required.
  • Work efficiently to meet project deadlines and customer requirements.
  • Liaise with the Electrical Foreman and Project Manager regarding progress and any issues that could affect project timescales.
  • Support and mentor apprentices and semi-skilled team members, ensuring work is completed safely and to the required standard.
  • Travel to customer sites in the UK and overseas to support installation and commissioning.
  • Represent the business professionally on customer sites and maintain strong customer relationships.
  • Keep the Project Manager informed of site progress, issues and work plans.
  • Follow all relevant Safe Systems of Work and Health & Safety procedures.

About You

We are looking for a dependable and motivated Electrical Fitter who can work confidently both independently and as part of a wider engineering team.

You will ideally have:

  • Previous experience as an Electrical Fitter, Electrical Engineer or similar.
  • Time-served electrical engineering experience or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong experience working with automation equipment and machinery.
  • Experience with control panel building and machine wiring.
  • Good knowledge of PLCs, motors, relays, contactors and safety systems.
  • Experience working with electrical and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical and engineering drawings.
  • Strong electrical fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Good understanding of electrical installation, inspection, testing and commissioning.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a project team.
  • Confidence dealing with customers when working on-site.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring apprentices would be advantageous.
  • Willingness to travel within the UK and overseas when required.
