Senior Environmental Health Officer (Health Promotion Project)

Salary: £29.00 - £39.08 per hour
Location: Hackney, London / Hybrid Working (39 hours per week)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Health Officer to lead an innovative Health Promotion Project aimed at improving access to healthier food choices across Hackney.

Working across Environmental Health and Public Health, you will engage with food businesses, retailers, schools, colleges and community organisations to promote healthier food environments, improve menu choices and support better food hygiene standards.



What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead the delivery of healthy catering and healthy retail initiatives.
  • Build relationships with businesses and community partners.
  • Conduct assessments, audits and advisory visits.
  • Support businesses to introduce healthier food options.
  • Improve food hygiene compliance and recognised standards.
  • Develop promotional campaigns, guidance and training.
  • Organise networking and engagement events.
  • Monitor project performance and prepare reports.
  • Work with Public Health colleagues to support healthy weight strategies.
  • Provide technical advice and support to colleagues and stakeholders.


About You

You will combine strong Environmental Health expertise with excellent project management and stakeholder engagement skills.



Essential Requirements

  • Environmental Health Registration Board approved qualification, including:
    • BSc (Hons) Environmental Health
    • MSc Environmental Health
    • Diploma in Environmental Health
    • Higher Certificate in Food Premises Inspection (Food Standards Endorsement)
    • Or equivalent qualification
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development in line with Food Standards Agency requirements.
  • Experience delivering Environmental Health, food safety or public health projects.
  • Strong knowledge of food hygiene legislation.
  • Experience supporting businesses and stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong organisational and project management ability.
  • Experience producing reports and presentations.


Desirable

  • Experience delivering healthy catering or healthy retail programmes.
  • Experience developing commercially focused projects.
  • Qualification or experience in nutrition, dietetics or public health.
  • Experience delivering behaviour change projects.
  • Registered Nutritionist or Dietitian status, or equivalent experience.

Working Arrangements

Hybrid, office and field-based working across Hackney. Occasional evening and weekend working may be required.
