Senior Failure Analysis Consultant
Location: Liverpool (Office-based with potential hybrid working, depending on experience)
Salary: Circa £70,000 (flexible depending on experience)
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Failure Analysis Consultant to join a highly respected technical consultancy specialising in complex engineering and metallurgical investigations. This is a consultancy-led position where you will provide expert technical advice to clients across a range of industries, conducting detailed failure investigations and delivering robust root cause analysis on critical engineering components.
This is an excellent opportunity for a senior metallurgist or failure analysis specialist who enjoys solving complex engineering problems, producing expert reports, and working directly with clients on technically challenging cases.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead complex failure investigations involving metallic components and engineering systems.
• Conduct detailed root cause analysis (RCA) using metallurgical principles and failure analysis methodologies.
• Perform laboratory examinations, material assessments and fracture investigations.
• Carry out site inspections and witness testing where required.
• Produce high-quality technical reports, clearly communicating findings and recommendations to clients.
• Provide expert technical consultancy and advice throughout investigations.
• Support clients with preventative recommendations to minimise future failures.
• Present findings to clients and, where required, provide expert witness testimony in legal or arbitration proceedings.
• Contribute to business development activities and maintain strong client relationships.

What our client is looking for
• An experienced metallurgist or materials engineer with a proven track record in forensic engineering, failure analysis, and root cause investigations.
• Experience conducting metallurgical failure investigations.
• Demonstrable expertise in Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
• Strong understanding of fracture mechanics, corrosion, fatigue, wear mechanisms and material degradation.
• Experience interpreting laboratory test results and metallurgical examinations.
• Ability to produce detailed technical reports for a variety of audiences.
• Excellent communication skills with the confidence to interact directly with clients.
• Commercial awareness and experience working within a consultancy or client-facing environment would be highly advantageous.
• Experience acting as an expert witness or supporting legal investigations.
