Location: Hertfordshire
Salary: £40,000 – £45,000 + paid travel, on-call and overtime allowances
Total average earnings: £50,000 – £60,000

The Opportunity

We are recruiting for an experienced Senior Fire Engineer to join an established and growing life safety and security business.

This is a senior, hands-on position within the Fire & Life Safety team, acting as the technical authority for complex commissioning, fault finding and engineering support.

You will also play an important role in developing the wider engineering team through technical guidance, mentoring and on-the-job training.

The Role

You will take responsibility for high-level technical delivery, ensuring systems are commissioned, maintained and supported to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commissioning & fault finding: Commission addressable and conventional fire alarm systems and diagnose complex faults, identifying root causes and corrective actions.
  • Technical systems: Configure system logic, cause & effect programming and networked panels, using manufacturer software for diagnostics and optimisation.
  • Technical leadership: Act as the technical lead for complex issues, providing guidance, mentoring and training to engineers across different experience levels.
  • Quality & compliance: Ensure works meet relevant British Standards, legislation and internal procedures, while carrying out audits and supporting corrective actions.
  • Customer & stakeholder support: Provide confident technical support to customers and stakeholders, resolving escalated issues while maintaining a high standard of professionalism and service.

About You

You will ideally have:

  • Senior fire engineering experience: Proven experience commissioning and fault-finding complex fire alarm systems.
  • Strong technical knowledge: Excellent understanding of fire alarm systems, programming, diagnostics and associated technologies.
  • Technical leadership: The confidence to mentor, support and influence other engineers while leading by example.
  • Problem-solving ability: A systematic, proactive approach to diagnosing technical issues and achieving the right outcome first time.
  • Professional & organised: Excellent communication, organisation and attention to detail, with a strong commitment to quality and compliance.
