Job Description
We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established equestrian organisation for an experienced Senior Groom. This is an excellent opportunity for a knowledgeable and dedicated equestrian professional to play a key role in the day-to-day management of a busy yard, ensuring exceptional standards of horse care while supporting and leading a small team.
The successful candidate will be passionate about horse welfare, thrive in a hands-on environment, and be confident managing horses of varying temperaments.
Key Responsibilities
Horse Care
- Deliver exceptional daily care, including feeding, grooming, mucking out, turnout, and general stable management.
- Monitor horse health and wellbeing, reporting concerns and administering treatments as required.
- Prepare horses for exercise, veterinary and farrier visits, transport, and competitions.
- Maintain accurate health and treatment records.
Yard Management
- Ensure the yard, stables, tack rooms, and feed areas are maintained to the highest standards.
- Manage feed, bedding, and yard supplies.
- Support the organisation of veterinary, farrier, and other equine healthcare appointments.
- Take responsibility for the smooth running of the yard in the Yard Manager's absence.
Team Leadership
- Supervise, support, and mentor junior grooms and yard staff.
- Delegate daily tasks and maintain high standards across the team.
- Assist with onboarding and training new employees and work experience students.
Competitions & Events
- Travel to competitions and events when required.
- Prepare horses and equipment for transport.
- Maintain the highest standards of horse care and presentation while away from the yard.
Requirements
Essential
- Significant experience working within a professional equestrian yard.
- Confident rider with excellent horse handling skills.
- Strong understanding of equine health, nutrition, and welfare.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable
- Previous experience supervising staff or assisting with yard management.
- Competition grooming experience.
- Relevant equine qualifications.
- Full UK driving licence and horsebox driving experience.
