Senior Hardware Engineer / Technical Lead

Lead Electronics Engineer

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Hardware Engineer / Technical Lead to join an innovative technology business developing advanced electronic products.

This is a senior, hands-on technical leadership role, offering significant autonomy and ownership across the full product lifecycle. You will provide technical direction for new product development, lead engineering activities from concept through to production, and play a key role in shaping product architecture, engineering best practice and design strategy.

Working within a small, highly skilled engineering team, you will act as the technical authority across multiple projects, guiding design decisions, supporting and mentoring engineers, and ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality electronic products. Whilst remaining technically hands-on, you will work closely with external design partners, PCB contractors, manufacturing partners and key stakeholders to drive projects through development, validation and production.

This opportunity would suit an experienced electronics engineer who enjoys leading complex technical programmes, influencing product direction, and combining technical excellence with practical project leadership.

Key Responsibilities for Senior Hardware Engineer / Technical Lead

  • Provide technical leadership across electronic hardware development projects from concept through to production and product release.
  • Define system architectures and lead key design decisions for new product development.
  • Act as the technical authority for hardware design, ensuring engineering solutions meet performance, reliability, cost and manufacturability requirements.
  • Lead the design, simulation and verification of mixed-signal electronic circuits.
  • Review and approve schematics, PCB layouts and technical documentation.
  • Mentor and support engineers, promoting engineering best practice and continuous technical development.
  • Coordinate activities with external PCB designers, development partners and contract manufacturers.
  • Oversee prototype build, testing, validation and regulatory compliance activities.
  • Drive problem-solving activities and support root-cause analysis of complex technical issues.
  • Champion design-for-manufacture (DFM), design-for-test (DFT), quality and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support production, calibration and manufacturing engineering activities.
  • Manage technical project risks, ensuring successful delivery against programme objectives, timescales and budgets.
  • Collaborate with customers and stakeholders to translate requirements into robust engineering solutions.

To succeed, you will ideally be an experienced electronics engineer with a strong background in mixed-signal hardware design and a proven ability to provide technical leadership within multidisciplinary product development environments.

Key requirements for Senior Hardware Engineer / Technical Electronic Lead

  • Degree qualified in Electronics Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Extensive experience designing and developing electronic hardware products.
  • Strong mixed-signal design experience, including analogue and digital circuit design.
  • Experience developing low-noise, high-performance electronic systems.
  • Strong understanding of electronic system architecture and product development lifecycles.
  • Hands-on experience with schematic capture, PCB design and circuit simulation tools.
  • Experience using Altium Designer or similar PCB design packages (OrCAD, Cadence, Eagle etc.).
  • Experience with high-speed ADCs, signal conditioning and data acquisition systems.
  • Experience supporting products through development, testing, validation and manufacture.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence technical decisions and engage stakeholders at all levels.

In return, you will have the opportunity to undertake a highly autonomous role with full project ownership.
