The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Health, Safety & Environment Advisor to join a growing project delivery environment supporting major construction and infrastructure projects. Due to ongoing project activity and a continued commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards, the business is seeking a proactive HSE professional to provide support, assurance and expert guidance across both office and project locations.
Your duties and responsibilities will be
- Support the development, implementation and continual improvement of health, safety and environmental management systems.
- Monitor changes in legislation and best practice, ensuring management systems remain compliant and effective.
- Assist with the development and delivery of HSE training and awareness programmes.
- Promote and support behavioural safety initiatives across project and office locations.
- Conduct inspections, audits and assurance activities to verify compliance with company, client and legislative requirements.
- Provide practical advice and support to project teams on HSE matters.
- Investigate incidents, near misses and close calls, ensuring findings are recorded and lessons learned are communicated.
- Analyse HSE performance data, identify trends and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
- Support the development of occupational health and wellbeing initiatives across the business.
- Provide HSE input into bids, tenders and pre-qualification submissions where required.
- Support the delivery of strategic HSE objectives and business improvement initiatives.
- Build strong relationships with project teams, subcontractors, suppliers and stakeholders to promote positive safety culture and performance.
You will have the following qualifications & experience:
- Extensive experience working in a Health, Safety and Environmental position within construction, infrastructure, engineering or other high-risk industries.
- Strong understanding of health, safety and environmental legislation and compliance requirements.
- Experience carrying out audits, inspections and incident investigations.
- Experience supporting operational and project delivery teams on HSE matters.
- Ability to analyse HSE performance data and identify opportunities for continual improvement.
- Strong communication, coaching and stakeholder management skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Commercial awareness and understanding of project delivery environments.
It’s great if you also have the following
- Membership of a recognised professional body such as IOSH, IEMA or CQI.
- NEBOSH qualification or equivalent Health and Safety accreditation.
- Experience supporting behavioural safety programmes and safety culture initiatives.
- Experience working on major civil engineering, infrastructure, energy or construction projects.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and occupational health and safety management systems.
- Experience contributing to tender submissions, work-winning activities and project mobilisation programmes.
The setting for the role
This role will involve supporting both office and project-based operations, working closely with management teams, project delivery personnel, subcontractors and key stakeholders. Regular travel to project sites will be required to undertake inspections, audits, assurance activities and stakeholder engagement, ensuring the highest standards of health, safety and environmental performance are maintained across the business.
