Sellick Partnership is partnered with a leading UK business to recruit an experienced Senior Legal Counsel into its established Legal team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a 5+ PQE lawyer with experience across financial services and commercial contracts to take on a broad in-house role.
You will work closely with senior stakeholders across the business, providing pragmatic legal advice across financial services regulation, regulated products, commercial contracts, suppliers, outsourcing and technology arrangements.
The Role
As a Senior Legal Counsel, you will provide legal advice across financial services regulation, consumer credit, regulated products and commercial contracts.
The role will involve working closely with teams across Financial Services, Risk, Compliance, Product, Operations and Technology, providing clear and commercially focused advice on legal and regulatory matters.
A significant part of the role will involve drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements, alongside providing specialist advice on financial services regulation and the legal requirements applicable to regulated products.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice on UK financial services and consumer credit regulation, including relevant FCA requirements and Consumer Duty.
- Advise on the development, launch and ongoing lifecycle of regulated financial products and services.
- Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of commercial and financial services agreements.
- Advise on supplier, outsourcing, technology, servicing, data-sharing and other commercial arrangements.
- Support procurement and commercial teams with contract negotiations and legal risk.
- Provide advice on financial promotions, customer communications and regulatory requirements.
- Support regulatory change projects and identify emerging legal and regulatory developments.
- Work closely with Risk and Compliance on legal risk, governance and regulatory frameworks.
- Advise on incidents, complaints and remediation where legal input is required.
- Provide practical legal guidance to senior stakeholders and wider business teams.
- Manage external legal advisers where appropriate and contribute to the development of the wider Legal function.
About You
- Qualified Solicitor in England & Wales with 5+ years' PQE preferred, although relevant experience will be considered.
- Strong experience in financial services law and regulation, ideally gained in-house.
- Good understanding of consumer credit, regulated lending, payment services or broader financial services regulation.
- Strong commercial contracts experience, including drafting, reviewing and negotiating complex agreements.
- Experience advising on supplier, outsourcing, technology or other commercial arrangements.
- Ability to balance regulatory requirements with commercial objectives and provide practical, business-focused advice.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and confidence advising senior colleagues.
- Commercially minded, pragmatic and comfortable working across a broad legal remit.
