Senior Planner

Location: Birmingham
Salary: £80,000 - £90,000



The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Planner to take a leading role across major building services and MEP projects. This is an excellent opportunity to influence project delivery from the earliest stages, helping shape programme strategy, identify risks and drive successful outcomes across complex construction projects.

Working across the full project lifecycle, you will focus on programme development, risk management, project controls and delay analysis, ensuring projects are delivered efficiently and in line with contractual requirements.



Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and update detailed project programmes using Primavera P6 and/or ASTA Powerproject.
  • Produce and manage Level 1 to Level 4 programmes for complex building services projects, including MEP, HVAC, electrical and public health installations.
  • Integrate design, procurement, construction and commissioning activities into fully coordinated master programmes.
  • Establish baseline programmes and manage change control in accordance with NEC, JCT and FIDIC contract requirements.
  • Collect, review and analyse project progress data, producing clear progress reports, look-ahead schedules and variance analysis.
  • Identify critical path activities, programme risks and potential delays, escalating issues where required.
  • Support Early Warning Notices and Compensation Events under NEC contracts.
  • Undertake delay analysis using industry-recognised methodologies including Time Impact Analysis, Windows Analysis and Collapsed As-Built techniques.
  • Support and substantiate Extension of Time (EOT) claims.
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, design teams and subcontractors to ensure programme alignment.
  • Chair planning and programme review meetings, providing guidance and direction to project teams.
  • Deliver high-quality programme reporting to senior leadership and clients.
  • Support bids, tenders and work-winning activities through the provision of planning expertise.


Essential Experience & Skills

  • Strong planning experience within building services, MEP or M&E contracting environments.
  • Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6 and/or ASTA Powerproject.
  • Proven experience delivering planning support on complex construction and engineering projects.
  • Strong understanding of NEC3, NEC4, JCT and/or FIDIC contract mechanisms relating to programme and time management.
  • Demonstrable experience preparing, managing and defending Extension of Time claims.
  • Experience undertaking delay analysis and programme risk assessments.
  • Strong analytical, reporting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Ability to translate complex programme information into clear and actionable insights.


About You

  • Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
  • Experienced in developing and managing programmes across the full project lifecycle.
  • Commercially aware with a strong understanding of project delivery principles.
  • Confident influencing project teams and challenging assumptions where necessary.
  • Proactive, organised and detail-oriented approach.
  • Comfortable working across multiple stakeholders and project teams.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to drive accountability and programme performance.
  • Experience working on healthcare, commercial or infrastructure projects would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of BIM Level 2 processes, Synchro, Navisworks or other 4D planning tools is desirable.
