The Senior Process Engineer will be responsible for the project management of smaller projects.
Reports to: Senior Project Manager
Key relationships: Project Engineers, Project Managers, Process Engineering Manager, Industrial Automation Engineers
Responsibilities
Design
- Produce the design of hygienic process plants, including surveys where required, to meet the operational requirements of our customers objectives, addressing all areas of process, mechanical, electrical and systems engineering. Determine the control philosophy and specify the technical and operational requirements of all plant components.
- Develop mass and energy balances for new and modified processes from raw data.
- Define user requirements and functional specifications.
- Keep up to date with and make recommendations of new technologies and innovations.
Programme & Progress Tracking
- Setting, monitoring and adherence of project programmes.
Commercial Management
- The effective management of all financial and commercial aspects of contracts, including variation orders and related Customer/Sub-contractor negotiations. The completion of all costing documentation and required interfacing with the Company’s central account functions.
Specification & Procurement
- Technical and commercial specification of all plant, components and sub-contracted activities. Raising of purchase orders and progress chasing. Ensure that all equipment and contracts are correctly specified and ordered for delivery at the required time.
Plant Installation
- The installation of process plants on Customer sites, to include all elements of Quality, Health and Safety and Technical compliance. Management of our sub-contracted labour ensuring compliance of the above and meeting the requirements of the contracted programme.
Testing & Commissioning
- All aspects of off-site and on-site inspection, testing and plant commissioning, using appropriate check schedules, including systems simulation, pre-delivery equipment inspections and site dry and wet testing procedures.
Documentation
- Timely delivery of full and proper documentation of all elements of a contract from initial URS & FS to the satisfactory completion and Customer handover of all final as-built drawing and plant manuals including the writing of the as-built process description.
Training
- The training and related activities/documentation to achieve the effective handover of operating plants to our customers. Ensuring safe and efficient operation.
- Assisting with the process training and/or training programmes for colleagues, to ensure company standards and working methods/procedures are followed and a set level of competency is achieved.
Tendering
- The accurate estimation of project hours, services and components and related activities/documentation to comply with the tendering process in a timescale to meet Customers’ requirements.
Health & Safety
- A full understanding of all project related Health & Safety requirements, to include conversance with the Company’s, Customers and general legal standards.
Quality Standards
- A full understanding of and compliance with the Quality System and related documentation, and its successful application to all aspects of project control.
- Auditing of Project Master Files to ensure compliance with the company's ISO 9001 quality system and implementing preventative measures and corrective actions where necessary.
Company Catalogue System
- Responsible for the addition, organisation, and updating of the process literature element within the company's Catalogue System.
Standards
- Participate in improving the company's existing standards, and to facilitate the introduction of new ISO forms, process standards/guidelines, and working methods/procedures where identified.
Other Responsibilities
- Compliance with the Company’s General Conditions of Employment.
- Ensure a professional and tidy approach is maintained within the Project Engineering Office.
- Complete accurate timesheets within the prescribed time limit.
- Present oneself with good demeanour and appropriate dress standard.
Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will:
- Have a degree in Chemical or Physics Engineering, with experience in Process Engineering and Project management.
- Have a range of administrative skills, involving the use of PC’s and PC application software for word processing, spreadsheets, project programming for both the Process Design and Project Management aspects of the position.
- Be motivated, a self-starter and ambitious to grow the role as the company grows
- Have the ability to work with others within multi-disciplined team(s) and when nominated to lead a project team, ensure that each member is aware of their tasks, deadlines and their importance. Monitor quality and progress and provide feedback on performance.
- Have the ability to develop and sustain good working relationships with the Company’s Customers and its Sub-contractors and promote the Company at all times.
- Develop a full understanding of all the technical/process design elements required in conducting the Company’s business.
- Develop a broad knowledge of the Company’s commercial contract procedures and of the Project Management processes involved. A comprehensive appreciation of the practices defined within the ISO 9001 Quality documentation is of prime importance in this respect.
- Demonstrate competency when managing the site and sub-contracted activities.
