Are you an experienced commercial insurance professional with the technical expertise and confidence to take full ownership of client relationships?
Can you deliver excellent service, protect an existing portfolio and spot opportunities to help it grow?
CKB Recruitment is partnering with a highly respected, growing independent insurance broker that continues to invest in its Commercial Division. Due to ongoing expansion, they have one final opportunity for an experienced Commercial Account Manager.
This role combines responsibility for your own commercial portfolio with the opportunity to support the Commercial Director, mentor colleagues and contribute to the department’s development.
You’ll need to be technically strong and comfortable managing clients independently, without relying on day-to-day guidance. Alongside this, the broker would particularly welcome someone with the commercial awareness to retain business, generate referrals and develop new client relationships.
The RoleYou’ll take ownership of a varied portfolio of commercial clients, managing their insurance programmes and providing proactive advice throughout the year.
You’ll be expected to build a thorough understanding of each client’s business, anticipate changing needs and give them compelling reasons to stay with the brokerage.
Your responsibilities will include:
Managing your portfolio independently, taking responsibility for client relationships, renewals, mid-term adjustments and ongoing servicing.
Leading the renewal process from preparation and market presentation through to negotiation and completion.
Providing confident technical advice across a broad range of commercial risks.
Negotiating suitable cover, terms and premiums with insurers.
Attending client meetings and delivering renewal presentations.
Taking ownership of complex enquiries and placements, exercising sound judgement about when specialist input is needed.
Protecting client retention by addressing concerns early and demonstrating the value of your advice and service.
Identifying gaps in cover, cross-selling opportunities and changing insurance requirements.
Developing referrals and new business opportunities through existing relationships, professional contacts and your own initiative.
Supporting the Commercial Director with team organisation and service standards.
Coaching and mentoring Client Managers, sharing technical knowledge and helping colleagues develop.
Success will mean looking after clients exceptionally well, contributing to the growth of the book and becoming a dependable source of expertise within the team.
About YouWe’re looking for an established commercial insurance professional who can step into the role with the experience and judgement to manage their own workload and client relationships.
You may currently be a Senior Commercial Account Handler, Account Manager, Client Manager, Account Executive or Commercial Insurance Broker. Your ability to operate independently matters more than your current title.

A proven ability to manage renewals and ongoing client needs without close supervision.

The ability to handle challenging conversations and resolve issues professionally.
A collaborative approach and the confidence to support less experienced colleagues.
Ideally, you’ll also demonstrate:
Commercial awareness around client retention, portfolio income and sustainable growth.
Experience generating referrals, identifying cross-selling opportunities or winning new business.
The initiative to develop opportunities through your own relationships and activity.
Previous mentoring, coaching or team leadership experience.
Knowledge of products such as Commercial Combined, Property, Liability, Motor Fleet, Construction, Cyber and Professional Indemnity would be highly advantageous.
What’s on Offer?Alongside a salary of £40,000–£50,000, you’ll receive:
Performance bonus.
Hybrid working, with Mondays and Fridays from home.
25 days’ annual leave plus Bank Holidays.
Private Healthcare.
Company pension.
Death in Service cover.
Free gym membership.
Complimentary Pilates classes.
Commission-free Home, Motor and Travel Insurance.
Career progression into senior leadership or Account Executive responsibilities.

You’ll have ownership of your portfolio, scope to help grow the business and the opportunity to develop your leadership responsibilities while remaining closely involved with clients.
If you can protect a book, help it grow and provide the experience colleagues can rely on, we’d like to hear from you.
