An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified accountant to join a financially stable and forward-thinking public sector organisation during a period of significant change and transformation.

We are seeking a finance professional with previous local authority or council experience, who can bring a strong understanding of public sector financial reporting, annual accounts and audit requirements.

This is a highly visible position offering exposure to strategic financial decision-making, major projects and organisational change initiatives.

Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality financial support across the organisation, with particular responsibility for annual accounts, audit liaison, budgeting, treasury management and capital accounting.

This role would suit an ambitious accountant looking to broaden their experience within a complex and evolving environment while contributing to the development of a high-performing finance function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to the preparation of annual financial statements and supporting working papers.
  • Act as a key contact throughout the external audit process.
  • Support the delivery of annual budgets, medium-term financial planning and forecasting.
  • Oversee treasury management activities, including investments, cash flow and borrowing.
  • Manage capital accounting and asset register requirements.
  • Provide technical accounting expertise and advice to stakeholders across the organisation.
  • Lead or support cross-functional projects and organisational initiatives.
  • Mentor and support colleagues within the finance team.
  • Deputise for senior finance leadership when required. [JD - Seven...ct Council | Word]

About You

We are keen to speak with commercially aware and technically strong finance professionals who possess:

Essential

  • CCAB or CIMA qualification.
  • Significant experience in financial accounting and reporting.
  • Strong understanding of budgeting, financial planning and audit processes.
  • Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet challenging deadlines.
  • Leadership experience and a collaborative working style.
