A leading engineering contractor are looking for an experienced Senior Project Manager to join a major data centre development in Middlesbrough.

This is a newly created position supporting the delivery of a large-scale development, offering an excellent opportunity to work on a high-profile, technically complex project within the rapidly growing data centre sector.

The successful candidate will have a strong engineering background combined with proven project management and construction delivery experience. This role would suit someone who is technically hands-on and enjoys working closely with engineering, design and construction teams to solve problems and keep projects moving.

The Role

As Senior Project Manager, you will take a key role in the delivery of the project's major substructure package, working across enabling works, groundworks, piling and reinforced concrete construction.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing technical and project leadership throughout the delivery of the works.
  • Acting as a technical authority, challenging engineering proposals and identifying technical risks.
  • Reviewing and interrogating civil, structural, geotechnical, drainage, remediation and temporary works designs.
  • Assessing design assumptions, construction methodologies, sequencing and constructability.
  • Managing contractor-led design packages through construction.
  • Working closely with site teams to develop and validate construction methodologies and sequencing.
  • Managing multidisciplinary engineering consultants, designers and subcontractors.
  • Coordinating with the client, consultants, contractors, utilities providers and other key stakeholders.
  • Identifying and resolving technical issues on site to maintain programme.
  • Supporting delivery of enabling works, earthworks, remediation, drainage, piling, foundations and reinforced concrete substructures.
  • Managing technical change and assessing its impact on programme, cost and buildability.
  • Identifying and mitigating construction, engineering, environmental and planning risks.
  • Supporting commercial discussions and negotiations arising from design development and technical change.
  • Ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with project requirements.
  • Working within a fast-track construction environment and supporting phased project delivery.

You will ideally have:

  • A degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years' experience delivering and/or designing major infrastructure, industrial, energy, mission-critical or data centre projects.
  • Recent data centre experience within the last 5 years is essential.
  • Previous experience in engineering, design management, project engineering or senior site engineering positions.
  • Strong knowledge of enabling works, earthworks, remediation, drainage, piling, temporary works and reinforced concrete substructures.
  • Experience working under Design & Build contracts with contractor-led design responsibility.
  • Experience delivering large-scale industrial developments or data centre projects.
  • Familiarity with JCT Design & Build contracts.
  • Experience managing technical change and supporting commercial negotiations.
  • Strong understanding of construction sequencing, programme and buildability.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
