Our client, is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to support their Engineering Services team. This contract role will focus on post-contract commercial management across live highways, construction and maintenance projects, with a mixture of office-based, remote and site working.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the effective cost control of civil engineering construction and highways maintenance projects
  • Establish and monitor project budgets in collaboration with clients and project managers
  • Determine contractor entitlements and lead the settlement of final accounts
  • Report and forecast contract final outturn costs for clients and senior management
  • Implement suitable procurement strategies, including frameworks and NEC4 arrangements
  • Manage the commercial delivery and cost outcomes of individual projects and programmes of work
  • Evaluate, agree and authorise contractor payments, making recommendations independently where appropriate
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standing orders, financial regulations, contract practice notes, codes of practice and financial management procedures


Job Requirements:

  • Relevant RQF Level 4-6 qualification, or equivalent, in quantity surveying, commercial management or a related discipline
  • Significant experience in quantity surveying within a civil engineering, highways or construction environment
  • Detailed knowledge of NEC4 contracts and the main contract options, including Options A-E
  • Experience in the financial management and cost forecasting of construction projects
  • Understanding of procurement strategies, frameworks and early contractor involvement
  • Knowledge of standing orders, financial regulations, contract practice notes and codes of practice relating to construction projects
  • Chartered Quantity Surveyor status, such as MRICS, or equivalent professional experience is preferred
  • Ability to make sound commercial decisions, communicate effectively and work confidently with contractors and stakeholders


Working Arrangements:

  • One-year contract working 37 hours per week
  • Hybrid working, combining home, office and frequent visits to live highways and construction sites
  • Based in Winchester, with travel required to project locations
  • Category B driving licence and access to a car required
  • Ability to work independently, including occasional lone working in a challenging site environment
  • Planned start date: 28 September 2026
