Carmichael UK are recruiting for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a major infrastructure project delivering a high-profile electrical converter stations/substation scheme.

This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in the commercial delivery of a complex construction project involving Reinforced concrete structures, Structural steel frames, Cladding and building envelope packages, heavy MEP installations, HV electrical equipment as found in industrial building construction similar to data centres, energy facilities, large distribution hubs and major process plants.

You will join a collaborative and high-performing commercial team, supporting the successful delivery of the project through robust commercial management, contract administration and stakeholder engagement.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all commercial aspects of the project, including cost control, forecasting, budgeting and monthly CVR reporting.
  • Administer contracts, managing Early Warning Notices, Compensation Events and contractual compliance.
  • Procure and commercially manage subcontractors from tender stage through to payment, variations and final accounts.
  • Prepare and submit client applications for payment whilst negotiating variations, compensation events and commercial settlements.
  • Monitor and recover project change, maintaining change registers and ensuring all additional costs are captured, valued and agreed.
  • Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities, ensuring contractual notices are issued and mitigation measures are implemented.
  • Support the wider commercial team, attend client and project meetings, provide commercial advice to project management and contribute to the successful delivery of the works.

 

Requirements

  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
  • Working towards or already holding membership of a recognised professional institution such as RICS, CICES or equivalent.
  • Previous experience delivering major infrastructure or construction projects within the UK for a Tier 1 or Principal Contractor.
  • Strong commercial management experience across complex construction packages.
  • Demonstrable ability to mentor and develop junior commercial team members.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, project managers, designers and wider project stakeholders.
  • Sound knowledge of JCT contracts is essential, with exposure to NEC and FIDIC contracts considered advantageous.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to influence outcomes and work effectively within a collaborative project environment.
  • Proven track record of delivering successful commercial outcomes at Senior Quantity Surveyor level.
