We are recruiting a Senior Quantity Surveyor/Commercial Manager for our client in Leeds. The company is an interior fit out main contractor who work on projects in the commercial, education, health, banking and industrial sectors. The Senior Quantity Surveyor/Commercial Manager will manage 4-5 commercial staff. They are looking to recruit someone who has managerial experience, but who is also hands-on, so they can still run some projects themselves.

The quantity surveyors work on a large range of interior fit out projects varying greatly in budget, size, and complexity, with a key role in managing project costs and profitability throughout the life cycle of a project, be it small or large, whilst creating and maintaining the clients trust and building professional relationships.

Duties:

  • The SQS/Commercial Manager's job role will involve overseeing the commercial aspects of projects, including budgeting, cost control and risk management.
  • Ensuring projects are commercially viable and profitable while adhering to contractual obligations and legal requirements.
  • Managing budgets, negotiating contracts, and identifying opportunities for cost savings.
  • Take accurate and informative briefing notes from clients when required to allow for robust pricing, including check measures and the like.
  • Taking off drawings and producing accurate Bills of Quantities/SoW’s.
  • Subcontract and supplier procurement, including detailed analysis.
  • Liaising and negotiating with external and internal customers
  • Monitor, value, capture and agree variations in line with contact requirements.
  • Produce valuations in line with contract requirements.
  • Monitor, measure, and report key profit opportunities and concerns.
  • Work closely with intercompany departments as required throughout project process.
  • Production of accurate and timely final accounts.

Requirements:

  • Strong financial acumen and analytical skills: The ability to interpret commercial data and make sound financial decisions.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills: Effective communication is crucial for negotiating contracts and managing relationships.
  • Understanding of construction industry practices and regulations: Familiarity with relevant laws, standards, and industry best practices.
  • Leadership and team management skills: The ability to motivate and guide team members.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills: The ability to identify and resolve issues effectively.
  • Qualifications: Ideally degree qualified with at least 10 years’ experience in construction and interior fit out for main contractors.
