Senior Quantity Surveyor
The Senior Quantity Surveyor will manage all cost and commercial aspects of the utilities civils package, including drainage, water supply, power distribution, and telecoms infrastructure. This is a lead position responsible for budget establishment, cost control, commercial negotiations, and claims management.
Responsibilities
- Establish, maintain, and report on utilities civils budgets and cost forecasts
- Manage variation orders, change control processes, and cost implications of design changes
- Review and process subcontractor invoices, valuations, and payment applications
- Manage commercial claims and cost-related correspondence with stakeholders
- Provide cost advice to engineers, site management, and the design team
- Monitor expenditure against budget and escalate variance
- Develop and manage procurement strategy for utilities civils scope
- Mentor junior QS and cost support staff
- Maintain commercial documentation and records to support project position
- Attend project controls and commercial meetings
Essential
- RICS-qualified Quantity Surveyor or equivalent professional qualification
- Minimum 8 years' experience in utilities civils or major infrastructure cost management
- Proven track record on rail, station, or major London infrastructure projects
- Strong commercial acumen and negotiation skills
- Advanced Excel and cost management software proficiency
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Stakeholder management experience across multi-disciplinary teams
Desirable
- Experience with NEC or similar modern contract forms
- Familiarity with BIM or integrated project delivery models
- Track record managing complex claims and disputes
