A long‑established, privately-owned main contractor with a strong reputation for delivering high‑quality refurbishment and new‑build projects across public and private sector markets. With a stable pipeline of secured work and a leadership team committed to sustainable growth, the business is strengthening its commercial function with the appointment of an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor.

They operate across a diverse project portfolio including education, healthcare, heritage, commercial and community schemes, typically delivering technically interesting, non‑volume projects. The company is known for its collaborative culture, low bureaucracy, and genuine investment in developing its people.

YOUR NEW ROLE

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you’ll take full commercial ownership of a portfolio of live projects, working closely with operational and pre‑construction teams to protect margin, manage risk and ensure commercial robustness from tender through to final account.

You’ll be a key commercial voice within the business, trusted to make decisions, influence project strategy and build strong relationships with clients, consultants and the supply chain.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead commercial management across refurbishment and new‑build projects

  • Prepare and agree interim valuations, applications for payment and final accounts

  • Manage subcontractor procurement, tender analysis, order placement and account management

  • Identify, price and negotiate variations and change

  • Produce accurate CVRs and monthly commercial reporting

  • Support estimating with cost planning and pricing on new opportunities

  • Ensure compliance with relevant forms of contract (primarily JCT)

  • Mentor junior commercial team members

  • Build and maintain strong client and supply chain relationships

ABOUT YOU

  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or equivalent experience

  • Strong experience as a QS/Senior QS within a main contractor environment

  • Confident managing full commercial cycles independently

  • Solid working knowledge of JCT contracts

  • Strong negotiation, communication and stakeholder management skills

  • Comfortable in a business that values autonomy over micromanagement

  • Experience in public sector environments (education/healthcare) beneficial but not essential

  • Full UK driving licence

SALARY AND BENEFITS
